Williamsburg, VA/Wash DC Vacation Suggestions Wanted

Christiana Campbell's, it's mostly seafood but they have some great friend chicken as does Chowning's.

Does Christiana Campbell's still do the spoon bread at dinner? I would go just for that. I haven't been in years, but this was my favorite and it always used to be full....had to have a reservation.

Do you every find coupons for Busch Gardens? I was looking at the Bounce Pass, but it doesn't seem to be a good deal except saving you time in line to buy tickets. Maybe I'm missing something or it is a better deal if you buy with a hotel stay?

Yes you can find coupons closer to summer. Different Grocery stores and ChickfilA and sometimes Wendy's will have them along with you can find deals on groupon and living social.

Just to easy your worries a little although Kings Creek is not Disney, the cottages are nice. My parents own there and we spend time there every summer they do a lot of activities in the clubhouse some that are free and some that cost little money that on a rainy day can be a blast.

If you get a chance the Yankee Candle Store is really neat. It snows in the Christmas area and they have a place where you can dip candles. I will ask my sister what Ghost tour they did with their daughters(7&13) this past summer because they loved it.

As for restaurant, We like Pierce's too used to eat there a lot. We also like Jungle Jim's it's a chain but from what I am aware of I think it is one of the only ones in the United States.

Also check the lobby area of King's Creek for different magazines and brochures for coupons.

Yes, they did last month. We've been several times and eaten at all taverns at least twice. I must say that Campbell's was always the most difficult for me historically since I don't do fish but this time they have several good options that were interesting. I'm thinking I got the chicken.

OP, I'm not sure you're dates but 2 of the taverns are closed until 8 April which means they'll likely be busy when they reopen. I'd call and make dining reservations if they'll allow it, I'm not sure if they do that far out if not staying on site. 3 are closed right now but one reopens in Feb. That means the menu's aren't on the site except for Shield's but you can still find the pdf's for the menu's online with a web search. Realize they do change a little from week to week to use them as a guide but not an absolute.

If your husband is into politics and if your family has a sense of humor you should spend an evening at the Capital Steps - they perform evenings (maybe only weekends) at the Reagan Center.

At Colonial Williamsburg, be sure to attend at least one of the candle-lit evening "trials." Their stories vary from year to year--we joined one putting a witch on trial and another about a pirate. Visitors act as the Jury and vote on the outcome. The trials are thought-provoking for adults, but also fascinated our kids when they were about the same age as yours. We thought they were terrific and still talk about them today.

My DH, DD(11) and DD(9) and myself are planning our first trip to Williamsburg, VA through an exchange this April. We are staying at the Kings Creek Plantation in Williamsburg for a week and then heading back to Washington DC for a couple of days. Any suggestions on "Must Do Activities", restaurants, and discounts would be appreciated! I am thinking of Colonial Williamsburg for 2 days and would like a suggestion on a historical tavern at which to eat while there. Any suggestions on the extra evening programs like Cry Witch, Ghosts, etc for my age of girls? Jamestown Settlement, Historic Jamestown and Yorktown are musts on our list as well as Busch Gardens. My DH wants to go to Mount Vernon on the way back to DC. Is it worth our time after just having been to Williamsburg? He would also like to see the Holocaust museum, but I think it is too much for our girls. Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

The places people have mentioned are good go to places to eat:

King's Arms Tavern & Christiana's for taverns
Fat Canary, TheTrellis, The Blue talon--higher end restaurants in Merchant's Square
The Cheese Shop, Pierce's Barbecue, deli's by William & Mary
Richmond Rd restaurants

There is so much to do in Williamsburg and so many different places to eat that you shouldn't go hungry. Everything you've listed to see is good. Definitely go to Mt Vernon and the Holocaust museum. I've taken school groups to the museum and they've been fine. They won't read everything like we will, but you can give them the overview. As OPs have said, there are lots of great museums in DC , a lot of which are free.
