Just getting a feel for what people's thoughts are concerning the new swine flu vaccine that will (hopefully) be coming out some time this fall.

Yeah, we'll all get it. Not that I want to. But DH is very immuno-compromised. The only way to keep him healthy in the winter is to keep everyone else healthy. A bout of pneumonia or flu could kill him.:sad2::sad2:

More than likely.. Either flu could be a death sentence for me, so it's not looking like we have much choice - unless this thing fizzles out.. (Still hoping and praying for that..)

I will do whatever my doctor truly recommends for us. We'll be calling in a month or so about the flu shot(s) and decide then. Of course we do this every year for the regular influenza vaccination and we are treating it the same.

Not when it first comes out i will let thosands of people test it before i get it.

I am scared to death this time around! I have chronic asthma, and get sick ...bad at least 7 times a year. And I am a middle aged women who is going back to school in 2 weeks, and we all know this is a breeding ground for this stuff!

I have an appointment to get my first yearly flu(regular one) shot in two weeks.

I asked DD8's pediatrician about this when we visited last week. He's recommending it for his patients but said it's likely there won't be enough to go around anyway so his office might not have any.

We don't typically get flu vaccines and haven't had a problem in the past (except allergies/ear infections and perhaps strep when it goes around school) but I'd never want to take a chance with my family's health either so I guess we'll wait and see what the doctor's recommendation is when the vaccine does become available.

My 11 year old niece is at the doctor's office right now with a confirmed case of the Swine Flu. She is dehydrated so they are giving her an IV. I've been around her ALL weekend. She didn't have symptoms until today but she was in close contact with someone that also turned out to be a confirmed case late last week. Obviously they didn't know that person had the Swine Flu at the time. I guess it depends on what happens over the next week as to if I will get the vaccine or not.

Not sure yet. If it were just me, then no. But DH is diabetic and they usually recommend the regular flu shots for diabetics and their families. I'll ask DH to ask his doc, and if she recommends it and he wants it, then I'll go ahead too.

Nope , three out of four people in my house had swine already and we probably have more immunity than the shot may give.

I was just reading an article about the S.F. vaccine. I thought it was pretty interesting. Scary too.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...s-concern-neurologists-25-deaths-America.html

Did you carefully read that entire article? Just as an FYI, there are many, many inaccuracies in there - as well as mingling GBS from 1976 Swine Flu vaccines to regular seasonal flu shots.. Actually, they don't even have the age groups correct for who will receive the new Swine Flu vaccine - and in what order.. It's a very "rambling" article that combines 1976 cases with regular seasonal flu cases with current Swine Flu cases with projected Swine Flu cases.. Basically it doesn't make any sense at all - no logical accurate flow of information.. KWIM? :goodvibes

No. Never got a flu shot so why should I get a swine flu shot?

And after hearing about the issues with the last one from the early-mid 70s, HECK NO!

Nope, never got a regular flu shot and don't plan on ever getting them, can't see any reason why I would need to get a swine flu shot either.

My niece is in the hospital. The doctors think it may be because of a vaccine she received a few weeks ago. She has ADEM-Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM). It is a neurological disorder characterized by inflammation of the brain and spinal cord caused by damage to the myelin sheath. The myelin sheath is the fatty covering, which acts as an insulator, on nerve fibers in the brain. ADEM may occur in association with a viral or bacterial infection, as a complication of inoculation or vaccination, or without a preceding cause.

Her left arm is paralyzed, her left leg is very weak. She can't smile because the left side of her face is paralyzed too. She has had all of her innoculations and never had a problem until now-she's 16 years old. At first the doctors thought she had a stroke. She's gone from ICU to a regular room and back again. This was the happiest kid you ever saw. Her personality has undergone changes too-she's no longer happy. It breaks my heart.

So, no we will not get the vaccine. I have a 15 year old daughter and I never want to see her live with what her cousin is going through.

I always get the flu shot and so does my family. I have several autoimmune diseases and take immune suppressant drugs. So any flu or illness can be very hard on me.

I will, however, wait a few weeks. I want to see what happens to other people before I let my family get the shot.

I'm not a big vaccine person. I won't be getting a seasonal flu shot or an H1N1 shot.

We will not get it. DH, DD, and I have no compromise in our immune systems. DD had H1N1 in the spring (a mild case). As a general rule, we get very very few vaccines, and don't yet see this one as something we're willing to take a chance on.

If you get a regualar Flu shot can you still get the H1N1 virus?

I get a regular Flu shot every year. I'm not sure I would get one for the H1N1 Flu. Considering it's new and who knows what side effects it could give off.
