Hi,
Honestly before the point chart even came out I was thinkiing of "downgrading" to a studio for next few stays. Now with this new point chart it looks like I will definately be doing that.

Will you change your vacation patterns?
Thanks
Kerri

We normally travel midweek, because of the price of the weekends. Like this year...we are going SUNDAY - FRIDAY...I can never stomach the weekend points

With the new points for 2010, we may actually tag in a weekend.

Economy.....i think we are lucky that we have alot of vacation days each..so we travel when the flights are amazing. We are flexible.

For example, this year, we are going in August because JetBlue direct out of Boston was $39 each way...thats how we "plan"....we know we are travelling in a given year, just not "when"

good thread though

I wish I could do that...we usually travel with SW and they don't release their airfares far in advance...so it would be hard to plan that way for me.
Although $39 fare:cool1: WOW...how awesome.
My next trip is planned the day after Thanksgiving...and I'm afraid what the airfares will be. The economy is the only thing that might keep it down.
How far in advance do you usually book your villa?
Thanks
Kerri

No, I won't change our travel plans due to the economy or the new point charts. I may add a day every so often mostly at BWV to our trips because we will be saving points under the 2010 charts in the future. But our trips will remain March at AKV, October at BWV and Dec at VWL.

Of course, if something drastic happens (like losing my job) then I'd reconsider the trips we have planned.

Probably won't make much difference to us. Our DVC purchase is paid for, we have enough points, we have AP's and the airfares are (currently) reasonable. Add that all together and it actually makes a quick trip to Disney one of the cheaper vacation options.

Just curious....are you surprised that a 1BR boardwalk view during F&W fest is actually cheaper that WLV....this is what makes absolutely no sense to me.

SW has not been offering any really cheap deals out of MacARthur...I've borrowed my 2010 points for a cruise already....so no more last minute trips for me:sad1:

We usually do the Sunday-Friday thing and we have grown quite fond of it. After all, the parks are more crowded on the weekends. We still have our weekends to get ready before and relax and catch up after. We too have more vacation time available to us. But now with airfare rising, and with this points update - which I really don't like - we will be probably going for a week at a time instead. We too were assured that although they could be tweaked, there would be no major point changes. At present, we are still happy with our DVC. I usually look for cheap airfares, and then call DVC to see if anything is available. You can hold the airfares for 24 hours. For instance, American had 66.00 flights from Chicago to Orlando so we called DVC and they had something available Feb. 8 - 13 so we booked. We also booked for October for AKL Kidani, but haven't got air fare yet. But I am looking.

Agree that vacation is vacation. The revised point chart may mean 8 days instead of 9 or I borrow and stay fewer days in the future.

Many Sun - Thur buyers are livid and I guess if you were only planning on staying 5 nights and this change is a huge burden on them. For those that stayed 1 week no difference. And for folks like me that stayed more than 1 week an increase but not same percentage.

We'll stay one day less a year. Economy had nothing to do with it. All point charts to blame.

Yes, I am surprised. My biggest drop in points for planned trips is for the BWV trip for F&W. Instead of 142 it will be 134 for the 1 bedroom over a long weekend.
But the announcment DID say that they were trying to make rooms more affordable during F&W, the Halloween party and MVMCP, didn't it? My villa for F&W is more affordable now for the weekend.

We'll be adding another day or two to ours. We used to go for a week or more from Sat-Sat. With the weekend points now a bit lower, we could add a day before and not hurt too much.

I need to start thinking like that.....look for the cheap airfare....THEN look to see if something is available. With my job though I need to plan at least 4-6 months in advance though because I have patients already booked.

Count me in for the livid Sun-Thurs people. Actually I am more upset with the "gouging" of the 1BR's at the WLV.

Just kills me to stay 1 less day...when you pay so much money just to get there. I might do every other year now and just stay longer.

Well it certainly didn't help me afford MVMCP.....

Glad it worked out for you:goodvibes

We usually drive from Texas and although it is a long drive I always make out better after gas, hotels and food than if we had flown. I usually save at least a $1,000.

We always booked Sunday - Friday because this allowed us a couple of days to drive down and a couple of days to get back.

Now, we have never had enough points..... We will someday but there is nooooooo way I am staying in a studio with two teenage girls (14) and (12) My husband and I would go :scared: and  and :crazy2: We like our vacations to be :coffee: and :)

We also usually take other people with us so a two bedroom or larger is required. We will either cut back one day on points and pay cash or just vacation every two years instead of one with the extra points left over going for a studio when DH and I take a couples trip. We will be taking a couples trip this September but we are out of points and will have to pay cash for a room. We may be slummin it at the POP :rotfl: which we do love, but I can just hear the swoosh of the toilet from the neighbors room. Very thin walls....

Wont be travelling differently. Will just look at what is needed and book it. Truthfully, I don't really ever compare to what the points were before...I just look for the dates I want , see what I can get, and go with it.

This year to cut back we might go to Universal instead of Disney. We can save about $300 to $400 on tickets. We don't plan on going to Disney next year so the AP wouldn't work for us. We drove last year, but so far the airline tickets isn't that bad. If it stays low we might fly. I just hope the kids don't miss Disney :guilty:

I'm already set for my '09 trips 'n still have my '09 points comin' mid year, not sure how I'll do my '10 trips.

I agree with the poster who said it's the one BRs that got gouged.

:rotfl2: Yes those are some "turbo" toilets. Although my 1st time in a 1st floor room was at OKW....and those toilets sounded the loudest....and when I woke up I thought I was back at POP:lmao:

I'm sure you will;) .....but the kids will probably think it is great....especially if they are a little older.

This is what I have taken "exception" to. It seems the 1BR at WLV have been "gouged":sad2:

We'll book the same with the new point chart as we did with the old point chart -- no impact to us (except our trips will cost less points).

The new point charts will change our vacations. We usually spend 5 nites in a 2 bedroom at OKW in Magic Season, Sun-Thurs. this was 150 points and is now 180. We also spend 5 nites in a 1 bedroom, Adventure Season, Sun-thurs for 80 points which is now for 2010 is now 95 for a difference of a total of 45 points. This is HUGE. We will now only do one trip per year or alternate from year to year by banking points. I don't like it.

OKW's points really changed that much? I haven't even bothered looking at the point charts, assuming(incorrectly, it seems) that they wouldn't tweek OKW's charts. I have a one bedroom villa for Thanksgiving week--maybe I should check out those charts after all:rolleyes: . I borrowed points from next year, and I don't have many left. I wonder what they would do if I didn't have enough points to cover their point changes??:confused3
