Will we be disappointed if we switch to AS Music?

We and some friends have reservations at Pop Century for October 2-8. Now it looks like my sister and he family, my Dad and stepmom, and maybe my brother and his family might come along also. This would be a blast!!

The problem is that we cannot get 3 more rooms at Pop Century with the free meal plan. We may all have to switch to AS Music. We have read so much about Pop and are excited about staying there. But it won't be fun unless we are all at the same resort. Will we be disappointed if we have to switch?

Here's a /bump for you - I'm curious as well! I have a very similar situation and would like to know what people think about AsMu - there seems to be very little discussion about it on DIS. Never heard anything terrible, but never anything good either. I hear it's the least popular of all the values mostly because of theme - I'm hoping that means it's less crowded as well. :)

well if you are really worried about it then do the same research aboud AS
i have never been there so but i cant think o f any reason you would be upset
they are the same size i thought itsjust the themeing that is different
they have cool pools there to from what i have heard.
check out some pics at

www.allearsnet.com

they also have reviews here and at all ears

good luck

I'm going to ASMu on 9th July. I agree with what you said about the theme, I would have preferred ASMo but I wasn't the one who got to choose.

POP is obviously newer but apart from that I thought that the resorts were very much the same.

I have heard that out of the all starsyou are at an advantage with ASMu if you are going to be using disney buses. This is because the buses usually stop at either ASMo or ASsp first or last but ASMu is always in the middle so you are more likely to get on the bus okay. I don't know if this is true but I'll find out soon enough.

One thing I have asked on another thread is about roofing repairs to all of the AS hotels. I have been told by my tour op that this is running from July to October but info was lacking. HTH

Haven't stayed at Music, but we stayed at Movies last fall, and several times took the Music bus because it was less crowded and a shorter line. It seemed to be the same basic layout as Movies, you walk through the main building and when you come out, there is the main pool, and the pool bar was right there too. The thing we really noticed was how much less crowded and how much quieter it seemed.

I think you'd be fine to switch

We stayed at the music resort and thought it was great. We actually liked staying there better than we did AK! (I know shameful!) I would say if you whole group could be together that benefit would greatly out weigh having to changing to a different hotel. Have a great time!!

Thanks to you all for your thoughts! I did do research on these boards and at allearsnet.com (the picture of ASMu at night is gorgeous!). ASMu seems like it would be very similar to Pop Century, except, of course, for the theme. I posted to see if someone had some new or more recent information. I will definitely ask about the roof repairs!

The only benefits I see for Pop over any of the AS hotels is 1) Pop has a lake; 2) bigger TVs (not that big of a deal); 3) newer; 4) larger food court; and 5) I think my Dad would really like the 50s theme.

Benefits of ASMU are 1) we'd all be together and the cousins could hang out; 2) the ability to use the other AS pools; 3) the middle bus advantage (although I personally won't use the buses because I get carsick on them); and 4) the possibility that it will be quieter than Pop.

Does anyone know if there are any cheerleader events scheduled for that week?

Thanks again!

If you guys are together you will have a great time and that is the main point. In regards to ASMu, I have stayed there twice and loved each stay. Things you hear a good deal of the time with this resort are the noise and bus review statements. The noise seems to be something along the lines of the toilets flushing loud, the neighbors being loud, and the football/cheerleader/church group/unsupervised hooligans bothered me. The toilets are loud, no question. The place is vibrant and active. It seems to be more busy than the moderates or deluxes I have visited. This may be due mostly in part to the landscaping of those resorts. The outside areas around the buildings are great and low key enough. It is the food court and main building area where you feel the "traffic" and activity noise. The pools are just okay but certainly good enough. We never so much as stepped in the pool. The noise from neighbors can be there but was never really a problem for us. We never encountered large groups of unsupervised kids running wild.

The bus service is good and I have only had one time where I waited a lengthy period for a bus. I have observed the bus service being better than many deluxe resorts at times.

Oh, you forgot one benefit!!! ASMu has that awesome TACO SALAD!!!

Let me just add this:

I stayed one night at movies and 7 nights at music.

The difference.

Movies-hairdryers were mounted on wall
Music-hairdryers you had to plug in yourself.

Not much different eh?

I've stayed at ASMu 3 times and have enjoyed each stay. I have even been there twice during Pop Warner weeks. I enjoy ASMu and wouldn't hesitate to go back. I have no complaints about anything from buses to noise. Only trying Pop this time for a change of pace. :flower:

Myst

I have stayed at Music about 4 times, Sports twice, and Pop once.

Comparing Music directly to Pop:

*Pop is newer, cleaner, and has brighter colors and cooler icons on the buildings.
*Pop does not share busses, as Music does.
*Pop is more centrally located, so bus trips to MGM, Epcot, and DD are shorter. Trips to AK and MK are a little longer.
*Pop has real soaps, not dispensers.
*The beds at Pop are bricks. Music's beds are much more comfortable.
*The food court at Pop has a similar menu to Music, but the quality is sub-par. Music has much better food and slightly better service.
*The gift shop at Music is not connnected to the food court, so you don't have to walk through one to get to the other.
*Service in teh Music gift shop is much better than the one at Pop. Also, the storage room for packages delivered to the resort from the parks is behind the counter at Music, but across the building at Pop. At Pop it once took 30 minutes to get my package.
*Parking at Music is world better. The lots are huge and there are more rooms located close to the lots at Music than there are at Pop.
*Even though Music is more remote than Pop, driving yourself wipes out that advantage, because Music is at the end of Buena Vista Blvd, the main east-west road at WDW. Drive times to Epcot, MGM, both water parks, and DD are all 10 minutes or less, because they all have entrances on Buena Vista Blvd; AK is also less than 10 mins because it is so close, and MK is only about 12-15 minutes.
*Music is less crowded than Pop and has more buildings far away from Melody Hall, making it much quieter and more peaceful.

Overall, I like Music best of all the Values.

Anywhere you stay in Disney you will have a great time. My family stayed at ASM when our boys were younger, with my parents and nephew and had a blast. Have a great time with your family!!!

I found the CM's at ASMu to be extremely friendly and helpful. I believe that try harder to please each guest because it is the least popular value resort. They were fantastic! It is normally the last value to fill up.

I would take it and get the free dining and enjoy. I've stayed at Pop and I don't think the differences would necessarily make a vacation better staying at Pop over ASMu.

I sure hope the ASMu is a great resort, we're headed there for 13 days. I did give some thought to splitting my stay. But DH hates just having to see me pack. Decided to leave it all in one place.

I wouldn't worry too much, the AS resorts all look pretty much the same room wise. You can go visit the other all star pools if you don't feel like swimming in yours.....

I've stayed at both places and liked them equally well. I wouldn't worry about switching. Save Pop for your next trip! :wizard:

Plus as my DD11 says "Mickey Waffle Sundae". We stay Poly GVC last Sept and she wanted to go back to All-Stars because they all have Mickey Waffle Sundaes. None of the other resorts have them. She tried to explain to the CM at Pop how to make them. LOL

I'll be staying here in 5 days - just want to subscribe! I'm glad to hear all of the good things about this resort - I was starting to get concerned!
