We love OKW and it is our favorite but decided to try AKV. We are going with a 2bdrm value rm. Will we be to disappointed when we are used to OKW with the huge rooms?

Frankly, yes. AKV has a lot of things to offer that OKW doesn't including 3 excellent restaurants and a counter service restaurant, the savanna with animals, excellent theming and decor, two major pools, only two stops for the busses internally. However, there is no getting around that the value rooms are small and an OKW 2BR is like having a palace in comparison. If four, you will be able to survive it without much hurt feeling, if five you will definitely have second thoughts, if six you are going to wonder why you chose something so severely cramped. In other words, get yourself mentally prepared.

please let us know what you think after your trip. We're going in july and generally stay at OKW as well.

Of course you will. We stayed one night at SSR in a one bedroom about two weeks ago and we thought it was very nice. But when we got to our OKW one bedroom, it was so much larger and roomier.

The Value rooms at AKV are so much smaller than the standard and savanna view rooms. They can't fit the sleeper chair in those rooms.

But it will be different and you'll probably enjoy it.

I'm looking forward to the GV at OKW in June. Now that should be pretty good.

If you're looking for space, you shouldn't have booked the smaller value room.

I stayed at OKW in December for the first time in a 2 bedroom. I liked the space in the villa and the close parking, but not the location. I likely won't book OKW again in the future unless it is a last minute trip and I can't get any of the resorts where I own points.

Well I think it really depends on how many people you have going. Yes the size is much smaller but the pool, restaurants and themeing I would perfer AK. We have only stayed with 6 people 8 and I would have been too crowded.

We stayed in a 1BR value at AKV last year. It was our first DVC trip so we had nothing but a standard hotel room to compare it too. We loved the room and for 2 adults and 2 small children had plenty of room! We had a full size crib set up and kept 2 strollers in the room as well. We had a pool view and weren't too far from the lobby. The resort was fabulous and we had a wonderful week.

Last Fall for our 2nd trip we stayed in a 1BR at OKW. We both thought the difference in size was STAGGERING! It was HUGE compared to the value. I loved having the full size w/d. I also liked parking right outside. But still I would say we enjoyed both trips equally. We are planning our next trip this Summer back at AKV (Kidani this time)

I don't think you will be disappointed as long as you are prepared for the size difference. The point savings are worth at least trying it!

I would always pick a value 2 bedroom at Jambo over a 2 bedroom at OKW. If you think you will be unhappy, then change to OKW. I have no disparaging thoughts regarding the value accomodations. If you stay with Jambo, I hope you have a wonderful time!

It depends on your attitude about the tradeoffs. I first stayed at OKW in a 1 bedroom, then my next stay was at BWV. Would I have liked my BWV room to be as big as OKW? yes. But, the tradeoff was the great location, several restaurants nearby, activities on the boardwalk, the better view. Those tradeoffs made up for the smaller room and I was happy.

We atyed in a 1 bt value a few years ago and loved it. Just last fall, we stayed in a 2 br at OKW and also loved it. Yes, the value will be smaller. but it is very nice, and the resort is stunning. There is nothing as large as the 2 br at OKW, so from a size perspective, there is no comparison. But I have nothing negative to say about the value villas at AKV. We will definitely be staying them again. The point cost is too good to pass up.

I think that you will love your stay there, the rooms will just be smaller/ But AKV has so much to offer. Enjoy!

I agree with DebbieB. It's about the vacation experience you want for this trip. When we want an exotic vacation, we stay at AKV. When we want to kick back and relax and expect to hang out in the room a lot, you can't beat OKW for the luxurious feeling of space and tranquility.

AKV will make you feel that you have been transported to another world with the decor, the music and of course the exotic animals roaming the grounds. Your room will feel tiny compared to OKW and you will have just a regular hotel room type balcony rather than that large OKW veranda but there will be many other things to make your stay special.

I would disagree with this.

There is a noticeable difference between an OKW room, and a standard/savanna room at AKV. But we have a hard time noticing that that the value rooms are are smaller than standard/savanna rooms.

We often book several rooms at AKV. As many value rooms as possible, but at least one savanna-view room to people can hang out there if they wish. Even going straight from one size to the other, I have to stop, think and visualize to see the difference.

Of course the difference may be obvious to those with better spacial visualization skills.

You may want to book a 2BR ded at Kidani if you think you will be disappointed with the value size 2BR. The 2BR was so large, to me it felt like gluttony! And we are one of those families that the studio's are now too small for (because we have taken too many trips in a 2BR!)

I think if you are already going into thinking you may be disappointed, then you will be disappointed. We have stayed in OKW and AKL before and I would pick AKL over OKW (our home resort) simply because I love the resort so much better, so much more to offer. The size of the room doesn't matter to me, we are a family of 4 and spend very little time in our room!
Good Luck, just remember that no matter what you are in Disney World have a fantastic vacation!

Remember you are at Disney, how could you not have a wonderful time. Just keep reminding yourself in advance your room will be smaller, but you have alot of new things to look forward to. HAVE FUN!!!!

Only you know if a large villa is what is important to you and your family. You can't beat the size of an OKW 2BR. But if you want to vary your vacations and try something new, AKV is good place to start. I would like to say that although many think it is important to stay at Jambo House, I think the three bathrooms at Kidani is important for a 2 BR. And when you get a savanna view you can request a room on the 2 or 3 floors, a much closer view of the animals. At Jambo House the DVC villas are on the 5th floor.

OKW certainly has more square footage, and other resorts are more compact, but some of that difference is not all living space. (Ie a large laundry room and a long hallway from the kitchen to the Master bedroom)

Then again the difference between a value and normal Jambo room is about 3' less space in the Living room and bedroom. The kitchen and bathrooms are the same size. You won't have the luxury of space for space' sake, but that doesn't mean you cannot have a wonderful trip enjoying the ammenities of AKV Jambo.

I have been skipping over this thread and finally decided to post... We are serious OKW lovers, we own there and truely love the space. We just finished 8 nights in a 1 bedroom for just 2 of us... it was awesome and we loved the room! That said, we also love the value 1 brs (even studios for shorter stays) at AKL. AKL is a special place that is a totally different vacation than OKW. I don't miss the space at all. With the different floor plan, and the different activities outside the room. I think you will still love OKW, but find a new different special place in AKL also... how will you know if you don't try?

We are not picky about where we stay, I just call, give my dates and then one or 2 resorts that are on the top of my list. Then they tell me what is available... This flexibility has given us some really fun and different vacations than I probablly would not have chosen as a first. choice. It always works out for us and although I always love OKW, sometimes other resorts work better: lower points, different location or even for just a change...:hippie:
