Hi Everyone!
We are WDW vets trying to plan a first trip to DL! We are thinking Easter (April 1st), or Memorial wknd, or July 1st. My question is, if we come on April 1st, will we be able to swim at the hotels? We will have 5 little ones who love to take a mid afternoon break and swim!:yay: Or is it too cold? Does it rain much at the beginning of April? We went to WDW at the end of April, and it rained 3 of the 4 days, so do not want to go through that again. And I mean not an afternoon shower, it literally rained straight for 3 days! We really want to make this a great first time visit to DL, so I am trying to cover every base! Any advice would be so appreciated!:flower3:
TIA
Oh, and yes I have read the great Hydroguys articles!

Its hit and miss in April, this year it got warm enough for me to wear a Tshirt one day.. I like it 80's and above.. We are from WA and my son swam a couple of times... in the past we had to buy jackets in April while dowh there.. another year we bought the misters because it was so hot...

Also traditionaly April is really busy at DL, and as Easter is April5th this year.. the of the 1st April is going to be crazy busy..

Hope you all have a great trip..

Well, maybe. April is still early enough in the year that there's a definite chance it will be more winter weather than summer (i.e. in the 60s, maybe low 70s). But, California also has random heat waves with temperatures in the 80s and 90s that can happen at any point in the year. If your kids can stand swimming in low to mid-70 degree weather, then yes.

It will not rain. No guarantees, obviously, but rain is an extremely rare phenomenon in California, especially lately (we're going through an extreme drought).

My rule of thumb when dealing with coastal California weather: for the vast majority of the year, it will be 50-90 degrees. However, it can be anywhere in that range at any point of the year and change suddenly. Heck, high 80s during the day and mid 60s at night is a typical summer day.

We were there beginning of April this year, we started in the 90's and it ended in the 80's. Very warm. But who knows. We will be there again next year in April, hoping for warm weather since that is the main reason we are headed back.

It all depends on what you are used to. For my family, coming down from Canada (where it can still be snowing at the beginning of April), we've absolutely been in the pools at that time. Then again, a warm summer's day for us is 75 (grab a slurpee and turn on the a/c).

You could always stay at a hotel with an indoor pool and then you wouldn't have to worry about it at all. :)

+1 to Maddysdaddy. It all depends where you're coming from. I'm from the Northwest. We start wearing shorts and sweating when the weather hits 60. I used to go down to the Bay area in winter time and be wearing shorts while they're wearing winter coats.

If you're from the Northern tier of states, it'll be fine. If you're expecting 75+ degree weather, then you may want to wait a month.

I don't condone it, but here in Chicago you'll see some people wearing flip flops with jeans as soon as it hits the 40s.

If your body is acclimated to cold weather, 50's and 60's can seem warm. That's why after months of freezing temps, people here in the midwest put shorts on when it hits 55 degrees.

Though in southern California the temp can change so drastically from afternoon to night that the night temps seem super cold since it's warm in the afternoon. We'll be used to cold midwest temps but evenings in CA seems frigid even if it's 60 degrees. That's because it was super warm and sunny during the day.

It was cold swimming in August for us WDW vets. We only got in the pool once, but loved the weather the whole time, it made our trip even more awesome. We have been to WDW many times in the summer(June, August, September) and it was sooo hot and humid, definitely wasn't like that at DLR- perfect southern California weather in the summer. Don't know how April would be though, sorry.
