Will upgrading to an AP change my free dining!

we have 5 day park hopper tickets. We are going in September. I would like to use our tickets on the first day and then upgrade or exchange my tickets for 2 Annual passes. One premier and one standard. Can I do this? Will it effect my vacation? Will it change my free dining pkg?

I don't think that it will be a problem, but if you are worried about it, just upgrade the tickets on the last day of the trip. The new annual passes will expire one year from the first day of your trip, regardless of when in the trip you upgrade the tickets.

When we did the FP+ and MB test two years ago I ran into this. Not exactly the same circumstances since you are using your ticket and we did not want to use it at all. Wanted to strip the 2 day free dining ticket off to use later on a weekend trip as we already had passes to use. Was told I could not do that, it would mess up the dining credits. I had the old tickets put on the MDE account once we converted my old paper tickets, and had to make sure the CM put the old tickets as the priority ones to be used first. Had to keep track of the days used myself so I wouldn't dip into those two new days. And being paranoid about it I often had the priority checked before I entered the parks too.

They might have changed this by now, but my guess is most CMs will be afraid that it would affect your FD package and not do it, or if it is doable now not many CMs will know how to do it correctly. Best to just upgrade at the end of the trip.

We go almost every year on free dining and use our tickets towards our APs. There has never been any issue with doing so.
The requirement is that you purchase a minimum 2-day ticket with park hopper as part of the free dining package. You can do what you want with the ticket.

Just an FYI, we have also gone on Free Dining and NOT used the tickets that came in our package. We go to guest services and have the tickets removed from the MBs, and have the CM issue a hard ticket to us instead. This way, there is no chance of using the ticket accidentally or having to worry about prioritizing the tickets. We make sure the only tickets on our MBs are our current APs. Again, it has never affected our Free Dining package.

If you prefer to leave them on your MBs, just go in to your MDE and deactivate the cards you don't want to use.

I have personally done this- booked a free dining package, entered the park, upgraded to an ap, kept all my fastpass+'s and free dining. This worked out great without any problems. This year, we have a package through rundisney, in which we got discounted tickets and room reservations. We will be upgrading those tickets to ap's in november.
