Quick Question - Does anyone know if there will be a counter service opion in Kidani besides the new TS restaurant or will guests have to walk over Maras in Jambo House?

Guests at Kidani will have to share the overwhelmed counter service at The Mara (in Jambo house). There will be no counter service at Kidani, nor will there be any quiet pool (all other WDW DVC resorts to-date have a quiet pool).

The Mara was tragic. We saw heat-lamped pizza slices, heat-lamped burgers, chicken nuggest in warming pots. So much for "African cuisine"! Yuck! :scared1:

We gave up our plans in May to add-on at AKV in May due to these issues, as we very unhappy with what we saw there.

Quick Question - Does anyone know if there will be a counter service opion in Kidani besides the new TS restaurant or will guests have to walk over Maras in Jambo House?

No plans for CS at KV as of yet that I've heard. Hopefully that will change since the full service restaurant planned for KV sounds like a snooze and heat lamped hamburgers and pizza would certainly be preferable for this taste challenged yahoo.

I was hoping there would be a counter service in Kadani. It looks like it will be a long walk over to Jambo House to grab a burger.

Disney does so many things right, why do they have such a hard time understanding that people like CS restaurants. At this point, I'd even take one of their gosh awful combo CS/retail designs.

Seriously, if they did a survey of 100 members asking "would you like a CS restaurant in the new Kidani?" does anyone doubt there would be 99 folks checking yes, with only the guy from Palm Beach County checking no.

What a dissapointment!!! Well, that confirms it, we will be staying at Jambo house. We MUST grab a cs breakfast as my son needs protien (eggs) in the morning and we do not want to waste time being waited on. I usually bring breakfast up tp the room while we get ready to head to the parks.
No cs is the very reason why I do not like BWV and I am sorry to hear Kindani will not have one either.:confused3
Also, when we are hanging out by the pool nothing beats a pizza ala heatlamp!:rotfl2:

It stinks that there will be no counter service at KV. I agree Mara is much to be desired. Our park time is limited anymore and we spend most of our time at the resort by the pool. I don't like BW for the same reson that you have to walk onto the BW for any type of quick food (which is very limited). I hope DVC rethinks this.
Thanks for the replies!

I'd LOVE a better table service restaurant because I find Mara very uninspired - but it's not much of a walk at all from Kidani to Jambo. It looks to me like Kidani will be as close to the main lodge as most of the outer rooms at BWV/BCV are to CS and parts of VWL are to the main building - and will be much closer than the majority of SSR/OKW buildings are to their CS.

Where did you find information on the TS they have planned? I would be interested to see some info.

I have to agree with everyone. I would love to see a CS planned for Kidani as well. Mara is so busy as it is, it only will be more busy now with all the extra rooms. Haven't they realized that is only more money for them?

No lunch served at Kidani, either. From DVC's official FAQ:

Sanaa
Indulge your senses! Sanaa, meaning "work of art," defines the atmosphere and the cuisine at this restaurant — with beautifully prepared food and an atmosphere simmering with style. Relax in the comfortable lounge that is adjacent to the spacious dining room. Savor breakfast and dinner here.

That said, I will be surprised if they don't have SOME sort of grab-and-go food available at Kidani. I'm assuming they will have groceries available like at the other DVCs, and it would be easy enough to put a refrigerated cooler in the corner. But the items available probably won't be anything more elaborate than pre-packaged sandwiches and salads.

Sorry, I wasn't ignoring the ?, haven't been on the boards for a couple of days. We're at SSR now enjoying a quick summer trip and getting ready to head over to Tampa to bring our grandson to see the Red Sox play the Rays this evening

I really know nothing any more specific than the speculation and wishes of some of our DIS posters. If Kidani creates another specialty restaurant along the lines of Boma/Jiko, then I'm just not all that thrilled. I really don't care how well someone can cook a goat, I'm still not eatin' one, ya now what I mean? Hence my snooze comment and self-depracating "taste challenged yahoo" remark.

Regarding the CS at Kidani Village, it would be nice if they have one but if they don't it won't be a big deal for us. I do like the offerings at The Mara and while it was busy sometimes , I found the service to be quick other times. Either way I always liked the food.

But about the distances between Kidani and Jambo, I think that a lot will depend on exactly where you are at Kidani. If you are at the far end of Kidani near the new savannah, you may be looking at looooong walk to the Mara especially if you are planning on bringing the food all the way back to
your room at Kidani. I guessing on the distances but even it's only 1/4 mile each way, that's still a 1/2 mile to get there and back.

I thought the pool bar had food too?

Hey- I live in Palm Beach County- We all dont have lots of money here!!!!

I think a CS restaurant at Kidani is a great idea, but I'm also excited about the possibility of the new TS. Boma is one of our absolute favorites, so if they do something along those lines we'll be thrilled! We want new and interesting food choices when we go on vacation. We purposely don't go to any place that has "traditional american" cuisine while we're in Disney (except seafood of course!) We can get pasta, burgers, and chicken at home - I want to try new and different on vacation!

That's my feeling to!

We're going to go to Boma on our next trip.

Did I read that the new TS is going to be Indian/North African food? I love Indian cuisine. I think that would be a great addition to AKV- still exotic (like BOMA) but also different style and flavors.

The new table service restaurant at Kidani will be called Sanaa. It will be african inspired with some indian dishes as well. From what I can tell it will not be a buffet, but you will order off of a menu.

One of my biggest concerns when we bought an ownership of AKV was the counter service option. I saw Kidani would not have a CS option. Yikes! :scared1:
My guess is the souvenier shop will have an area for grab and go breakfast similar to the Beach Club Marketplace. I'm also hopeful the pool bar will serve some counter service food like cold sandwiches, chips, salads, etc. I'm sure the pool bar or souvenier shop will provide refills for the refillable mugs.

With the size of Kidani Village I'm not sure how long AKV will survive without another counter service option. The Mara is going to get slammed without other quick service options.

Your "exotic" options already exist at AKV in the form of Boma & Jiko. Why beat us to death with the same type of stuff in another AKV TS restaurant. Not that there's anything wrong with offering authentic type cuisine, but my goodness, enough is enough already!

Oddly enough, one of the busiest and hard to come by ADRs for TS restaurants in all of WDW is a little chicken & beef place called Le Cellier. The ability to order that "ho-hum cuisine" at home isn't keeping many folks away from Le Cellier.

Regarding CS:
SSR's planned restaurant offerings changed fairly quickly after opening with the outcry from members over not having a table service restaurant. So maybe the reverse will happen and we will soon be hearing of "enhanced" food offerings in the form of a CS restaurant at Kidani Village.
