Will the World Cup being in Brazil lessen July tour groups?

Just wondering if anyone thinks that the Wold Cup being in Brazil in July will lessen the tour groups in July at WDW?

We will be there July 5-12, hoping that they may be less.

I'm kind of thinking it might be like Mardi Gras week for NOLA folks....get the heck out of Dodge and to WDW.

Probably not. It isn't like they can't watch soccer at WDW. And I'm sure those large numbers of teen girls won't be giving up their WDW trip for the World Cup.

I doubt it. Aside from going to all of the Orlando theme parks, outlet shopping is HUGE on their list of to-do's and most are purchasing suitcases full of things for their families. I can't see their parents canceling that for the World Cup.

Not really, IMO. Just because a major sporting event is held in your country doesn't mean you're actually going to attend.

And if they make it to the finals (which is predicted) on July 13th. and they win, the amount of yelling and screaming will be doubled
I worked on International Dr. years ago when Brasil won the cup and man was it loud, they kept driving up and down the strip, honking and yelling

I could see it affecting people traveling, significant enough to notice??? Dont know. But it is a big deal. Imagine superbowl but 1000x more involved by everyone. Much bigger deal than olympics IMO. Espec. For brasil

God, I hope so. We went to Universal a couple of weeks ago, and they were all over the place - both the tour groups and the single families. UGH.

What is it about the Brazilians that seems to bring out the worst in us? I'm sure that they are perfectly nice people on their own. Yet, when they come here, we all seem to get so upset. What is the factor that makes this happen?

I will say that there were several Florida school groups at Universal as well, and they were ten times worse, nearly running over my DS2yrs as they were in a rush to get on the roller coasters. So, we are pretty bad too!

Just be prepared for a crazy day if Brazil is in the final match - win or lose (which OP will miss since it's on the 13th).

The semi-finals are on July 8th and 9th in case anyone wants to know....

Edit and add: The Boardwalk, especially around ESPNZone, could be crazy on those days - depending on who's playing. Just something to keep in mind...

Times for the Matches are in UTC and I'm pretty sure Fla. is in UTC 5 - meaning, subtract 5 hours from the UTC time for match start. But, I can never remember, I think it may be subtract 4 hours with Daylight Savings Time.

I doubt it, for a couple of reasons.

- Even though football is king in Brazil, I doubt it can compete with a trip to WDW and an epic shopping spree in the eyes of teenage girls.

- The first WC matches begin in just a couple of weeks, and will be finished before the middle of July ( the month that typically sees the largest influx of BTGs)

-If the WC parallels the experiences of Olympics host countries, you would expect to see a !of of locals leaving home for the duration to escape the chaos.

When we went in Aug 2012, it was during the summer olympics in England. I saw so many English families at WDW, our neighbors on both sides several rooms down were all from England. In talking to them they said they came to WDW to get out of the madness and rent their house out for a couple weeks.

Maybe the World Cup in Brazil will bring more Brazilian families looking to escape the madness?

My DH's company offered to buy World Cup tickets for their customers in Brazil. No one took them up on the offer.....they are expecting it to be a mad house, and a lot of them are going on vacation to get away from the chaos!

I think it's just a culture clash. We were at Universal this past February and there was a large group of Brazilians staying there (like let's say 10 people). But definitely an extended family. We happened to get on the boat with them from Portofino twice...both times they were singing in the boat the whole way over. Loud. Like really loud. Sounded like some sort of chant or something and they were singing it in rounds. Very annoying. I wanted to jump in the water and swim the rest of the way there. But we have also encountered very nice Brazilian families as well in smaller groups. So maybe it's the size of the group. I dunno.

I think it's the mob mentality in general. They push people out of the way, yell and scream and act like they own everything.

Bottom line ... futbol is in fact king in Brazil, but only so many people can afford to get tickets to the games or can even cram into the stadia. Compared to the population at large? Not even a drop in the bucket.

Look for a slight decrease in Brazilian tour groups, but not so much that you'd really notice.

I personally don't think The World Cup is going to have any effect at all on July South American Tour Groups.

1)The World Cup ends on July 13
2)A LARGE number of the SATGs are actually from Argentina as well as smaller numbers form Ecuador,Mexico,etc.
3)I don't think these 15 year old girls are going to give up ther "once in a lifetime" trip to NYC/WDW/Miami to stay home for The World Cup-it is a HUGE thing for them to take the USA trip!

Now,if Brazil is in the Finals July 13,the BTGs will be "fun" to watch that Sunday at WDW!lol
