Will the Price Drop on the Rebel when the 400D hits the market?

I've wanted one of these Canon Rebels for a long time and I'm hoping that the price drops on the old ones when the new 400D comes out in November. What do you think? Will the price drop and by how much? Thanks!

I posted a similar question, thinking it's "debut" might mean a price drop.

The answers boiled down to basically this: hard to tell, will come down but by then the stock may be dwindling and could be harder to find.

Dell dropped its price from $699 to $594.15 (body only) this week, though, I noticed. Now if only a good camera shop would do the same. . .

Well, Dell may not be the ideal camera store - but the rebel is the rebel wherever you get it from. At that price - I could seriously be talked into a couple of extra lenses to go with it!

The price will absolutly come down. Probably to around $550 - $600 and it will get lower as it nears the end of it's sales run. Then in about 6 months they will probably be no longer for sale except on eBay.

I order from Dell often, they run all kinds of deals every week and if you can keep up with the coupons you can save hundreds of dollars over everyone else. Last winter they sold the XT with the kit lens for $559 with a coupon. The coupon was limited to the first 100 but a couple of people I know jumped on one for a backup camera cause the price was so low.

Went to my local Best Buy over the weekend. The price has already dropped to $699 (including lens kit) and the sales mgr. advised me that the price will come down even more once they get the 400D in stock which he said would be in a couple weeks.

Actually some BestBuys and Circuit Citys have already recieved their first shipments. Some of my local stores are IN stock right now.

At BeachCamera dotcom the 350D has gone down exactly $35 since the announcement of the 400D, was $639 and is now $604.

Again IMO, based on what happened with the Digital Rebel after the XT was announced...

If you wait till the price drops down too much you may risk inventories being gone by the time you pull the trigger. I see them being cleared out at around $580, if you wait for it to drop lower than that, You may miss out.

It's OK to buy from Dell... I bought my original D-rebel from them and other big ticket things. I have no complaints or stock in the company!

The XT is currently $601 at BeachCamera, $604 a week ago and $639 when the XTi was announced.

The XTi was actually in stock at a local Circuit City, not on display but it was in stock. I wanted to handle it and a CSR offered to open a box for me but I was not going to buy it so did not really want to hassle him.

The 350's have certainly come down over here since the 400 was available, but bizarrely the 400 is going up in some places! Ordered ours on Saturday for £475, and today the same place has at £499. Admittedly this is still cheaper than literally everywhere else in the UK.

Just and FYI from when I was watching the prices on the Pentax *ist DL. As soon as the price edged up the littlest bit, it signalled the end of the good deals and it only went higher. There should be a large supply of XTs though, so who knows.
