Will the PeopleMover ever return?

This is probably the one attraction I really missed coming from WDW to DL. Sure, ExEv is awesome, Dinosaur makes me wet myself, and RnRc is incredible, there are decent replacements that DL offers up. But there's nothing like that "stoll" feeling you get on the PeopleMover as it slowly moves through all the attractions of Tomorrowland. Talk about relaxing and getting in the Disney Zone.

I've heard several reasons: money, OSHA and other stupid California gov't laws. What's the real story? Is there a Bring Back the PeopleMover page I can sign up for? Should I start one myself?!?!

That was my 6 year old son's biggest complaint on our recent trip! He declared WDW far superior just because of the people mover, lol!

As much as I'd love for the PeopleMover to return to DL, I highly doubt that there is any chance that it could ever return in its original form. The PeopleMover ride itself was removed to make way for Rocket Rods, which used the PeopleMover track. I can see Disney trying to re-use the People Mover/Rocket Rods track and space for something, but I doubt it would be to just bring back a ride that they took out in the first place. I can only think of one instance where a ride was returned to it's original (sort of) form after a newer version was installed and that was the Tiki Birds at MK.

In terms of OSHA requirements, any new ride (even if it was to bring back the old ride) would need to meet OSHA requirements. Given the amount of changes needed for Alice to meet OSHA requirements, I would think it would be pretty pricey to install all the necessary safety measures for something like PeopleMover, which has a lot of open (i.e., no railings, etc.) track. Given the type of ride it is, I doubt Disney would want to spend the money to bring back an old ride and bring it up to OSHA requirements. I just can't see PeopleMover being a big enough draw to justify the costs.

If there was ever an ill-conceived ride it was Rocket Rods. The ride broke down so much and when it was up the line was long and the ride was substandard. I can't fathom where or how this concept developed. I'm not a physicist, but even I could identify simple physics issues with that ride.

I do hope they do something with the space or at least the space where the queue was. It's kind of looks strange that there's nothing there.

One our faves at WDW, too, hands down.
Would LOVE to see it at DL!!!!

Most likely, Tomorrowland is going to have a complete refurbishment to bring in the whole Star Wars theme. I imagine some of the existing People Mover sections will be used for the rumored speeder bike roller coaster.

when I took my two boys to WDW I explained we used to have the same ride in California Disney, they had no interest to ride the people mover (thrill seekers) till later in the day to enjoy some sit down time and they really enjoyed the ride we actually rode it again later that day on both our WDW trips. WDW's people mover is much longer in length and I would say better than what we had but it would be nice to see it back in our park again in original form no crazy new styles or cars.

Oh how I miss the Peoplemover. What a great attraction. Rest your feet and still get to see cool stuff! Awesome. Was really hoping it would come back. Or they would put a lightcycle attraction there from TRON. Something needs to go up there or the track needs to be removed. It looks so sad there now with nothing going on.

I love the people mover & it's one of the first rides we head to when we are at wdw. I wish they would return it to dl...rocket rods was horrible!

What figment_jii brought up makes a lot of sense. Unless the do something like the Peoplemover in WDW, where it is covered with rails along the side, it seem like they won't bring it back :( I have heard a rumor that they might do something with Star Wars, like pod racing, but that is with the same rumor that they will be adding a Star Wars land. :confused3

It provides shade on a sunny day. :-)
Just trying to think of something positive...

I would love to see the people mover return, but I don't believe it will happen. I have so many great memories from that ride, the best being they remind me of my father. I can't see the tracks without the memories of how much we loved to ride that ride together. So yes I would be sad to see the tracks go.
