Its just the park is open from 8 am to 12am I believe and thats a real long day- so we were wondering if we left for a little break to go back to our hotel would their be a chance that it would fill up to capacity and how does it work if your a on property guest??

Thanks:wave:

I think 8am-12midnight on a hot summer's day would be too much for ANY Disney fan!!!!

That said, it will very very likely fill to capacity - July 4th is the busiest day in the Summer by far, especially at MK (women sometimes have to queue for 20 minutes to use the restroom!). I think we can expect this even more if we look at the madness over Easter.

Disney has a staged closure procedure - that is to say they close the park to different people at different times based on their 'rank'. So at the bottom is non-Disney resort guests; once the parking lot is full only Disney resort guests can enter. I think I read somewhere that if it gets to ridiculous proportions only Annual passholders or multi day pass holders can get back in, although that ought to be checked.

So I would say if you leave there is a risk you won't be able to get back in. However as a Disney resort guest you should be ok if you time your return correctly - I'd ask Disney staff on the day for advice.

Besides you've got to take that break - 16 hours of Disney is too much even to me! :D

I agree with the two previous posters, that the likelihood of it reaching capacity on that day is almost a given.

I've been to MK on the 4th a couple of times, and it has closed to capacity both times! If you want to see the fireworks from inside MK, you really to stay all day to ensure entry.

At certain busy times of the year the parks experience great numbers of visitors. These fall mostly on the holidays but can happen any day of the year. July 4th inside MK is absolutely one of them in my opinion having been an AP holder for nearly a decade. In order to ensure safety and a magical time for all once a certain number of guests have entered the park, certain attendance measures go into effect. They are as follows:
Phase One:
Day Guests who have not already purchased tickets and Cast Members using their Maingate & Silver Passes will be turned around at the Auto Plaza. Guests meeting this criteria are told the Park has reached capacity.
Phase Two:
Currently, admission is limited to Resort Guests, Premium and Annual Passholders, crossovers and other Guests re-entering one of our Parks today. Guests using WDW Resort Transportation and Guests in taxis, will be admitted. Guests not meeting the above criteria are told the Park has reached capacity.
Phase Three:
The theme park is only open to Resort Guests using Disney transportation from their Resort or other theme parks or Annual and Premium Passholders. Shades of Green and Downtown Disney Resort Area Guests using their respective transportation will also be admitted. Guests not meeting the above criteria are told the Park has reached capacity.
Phase Four:
Closed to all Guests and Guests are told the Park has reached capacity.

The park is open that long on that day so more guests have a chance to get in for some portion of the day. It really is not expected that every guest will stay or even want to staythe entire 18 hour period of time.

In the past, the MK has reached Phase Four. In 1997, my parents flew down to meet us during the 4th and were questioned at the security gate at the GF. The guard made my parents show him their confirmation, proving that they were staying there and not trying to get into the MK because it was completely closed to everyone.

Okay, I had a question along these lines, too, and I think I have it, but just want to clarify....

We first-timers will have APs and are staying onsite at AKL. If we attend a park and return back to the hotel for a break, I thought that we were guaranteed reentry EVEN if a park reaches capacity, since we are Disney guests? Is this not correct?

Also, with regards to e-ticket nights, do you have to go to MK that day in order to use their e-ticket night, or can we say, go to AK for the day and go to MK later for the e-ticket night and purchase our e-ticket ticket at the hotel?

Thanks!

This is incorrect. As a WDW guest you are guarenteed entrance to A park, but it might not be the park of your choice. So, if you leave a park and it ends up closing up to all additional guests, you'll then be able to go to another park, but that one is closed, regardless of whether you were there in the AM or not.

Last year we were planning a PS for Artist Point on July 4th but I mentioned to the itinerary planner that we were returning to MK for the fireworks. She told me if I really wanted to see the fireworks from inside the park that I needed to remain in the park and she booked a PS for Tony's Town Square instead. It's a good thing she did too because the park filled to capacity and if we had left for our short journey over to WL we would not have been able to get back in!!:( By the way, she also booked a PS outside of the park just in case because we weren't arriving until around 10:00 am and by the time we got checked in and over to the park it was going to be around 11 or 12 and she said that she couldn't predict when the park would close. After we made it in to the park we called and canceled the PS for outside the park. I guess sometimes it can close early in the day on the 4th.
