With so much anticipation for it's release do you think Disney's upcoming Snow White live-action version will be a hit in theaters when it debuts in March? What I think is that Disney is hoping for a home run out of the ballpark with Snow White because after the failure of Mufasa The Lion King and the somewhat stellar The Little Mermaid it's time that Disney has a live-action movie be a surprise hit. I also think they should've named it The Fairest One Of All rather than Snow White because that title would've been better than Snow White. The only reason I think the film will do well is because of Gal Gadot in the role of The Queen and as we saw with Angelina Jolie as Maleficent in the movie Maleficent I think Gal Gadot will steal the show as The Queen in Snow White and many fans who know Gal Gadot from Wonder Woman will most likely see the film because of her. I also think people who were fans of the animated Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs film will enjoy it as well

I doubt it.

1 - There has been a lot of bad press already thanks to Rachel and her mouth.
2 - It's been a while since WW and WW84 was such a joke I think a lot of that shine has worn off of Gal - even putting her politics/nationality issues aside.
3 - Then add Dinklage mouthing off and getting 7 little people fired because he thinks he speaks for all little people in the business.

I just think there's too much stacked against it.

(I really wish they'd quit calling the CGI Lion King and its subsidiaries "live action". Untill they are using live trained animals for all of the scenes in all of the movies, it is not LIVE. I know they use live animals for modeling. But they're not even putting them in MoCap suits - if they were, then they could be passed off as live action. And frankly Mufasa failed because it is just not good. Story-wise or music-wise. I love me some Lin Maneul Miranda, but he's clearly not up to the level of rapid pumping out of music a la Menken or the Sherman Brothers as the songs in Mufasa were some of the weakest I've heard of his.)

I think it’ll be a dud. I really want to like it but from what I’ve seen so far I don’t have any desire to go see it myself. If it comes out maybe the reviews will change my mind but I don’t see that happening right now.

I'll also point out that because "it's time that Disney has a live-action movie be a surprise hit" doesn't mean that this will be it. I would like to think people are smarter than to go "Aw, let's give them a hit since they've had so many live-action misses so we'll go see this one" and see it just because of that. Sometimes things just don't deserve to be a hit - just like sometimes there are better actors than your favorite (or at least actors who landed meatier roles) or better films than your favorite (an important reminder as we enter awards season).

It's hard to say. There hasw been a lot of "noise" about it, but that has died down. The real trailer seems to assuaged a lot of the "fears" about it, and it certainly looks "right" anyway. That said, I don't know that Snow White even ahs the popularity or the Renaissance era princesses, and the songs aren't as remembered (I think they are using some new ones too). I don't think it will be a total flop though.

I feel like this movie is either going to flop or barely break even, if that. The trailer looks horrendous and from what I've seen, it's being mocked by pretty much everyone regardless of their feelings towards the press surrounding it.

I also disagree that Gal Gadot will steal the show as she is a very bland and boring actress. She hasn't been compelling in anything she's been in, including Wonder Woman. She is miscast as the Evil Queen IMO.

Facts. Literally the ONLY live action segment is the sun rising at the very beginning of the 2019 remake. Everything else was animated in Unity.

The failure of Mufasa The Lion King ?! Are you stating that as opinion or fact? .. this is a fact ..

Mufasa is now the 10th highest-grossing film globally among 2024 releases.

As fas as Snow White… I would be absolutely shocked if this was a HUGE hit at the box office. Has bad press going back to last year, thanks to Zegler, and the CGI looks terrible.

I feel it is better to refer to movies like that as "photo realistic" but not "live action." At least The Jungle Book, which was similar, did have one human actor in it.

No. I think people are tiring of live action remakes. Snow White has been done to death in live action the past 20 years. I wish Disney would instead shift to more alternate stories like Maleficent and Cruella. People love baddies and since it's live action, there's no worry about upsetting traditionalists about how the story plays out.

If Lilo and Stitch does poorly, that will be the true sign that Disney needs to be done with live action remakes.

I prefer the movies that provide a unique take on it, but box-office history suggests otherwise. We are seeing that slow though, as last year's The Little Mermaid didn't do that well, and it would be a more traditional remake. So that may be changing, but it takes a while for the studio to pivot. That said, I don't think the unique takes are suddenly going to gain popularity either, as sadly they seem kinda niche.

I actually think what will hit for them is going to be Freakier Friday. It feels like that is going to strike just the right nostalgia chord, and it's not a remake, but a sequel - a sequel to a remake, but still. Expectation - we will see more projects centered on the early 2000's Disney oeuvre.

Cruella is a surprisingly great movie. I did not think I would like it at all - but, man, was I wrong!

I agree with you there but I guess Disney doesn't as they keep insisting those movies are live action 🙄

I don't think there's much anticipation.
Between it taking so long to come out and the controversy surrounding the actress's outspoken opinions its gonna flop IMHO.
I have no intentions of seeing it especially since I hate these live action versions.
Create something NEW instead of a different version of a classic animated movie.

Again, as much as people say this, moviegoers have shown a very clear preference for sequels and remakes. The remake fever may be dying down a little, but sequels are still hot. Disney has learned that original fare will not do well at the box-office, but sequels will (see Inside Out 2, Moana 2). I woudl prefer more originals too, but we get the movies that we deserve.

Wow! 16 of us have voted and all feel it will fail!

I think the original Snow White was such a success due to when it was released and everything new in animation that it contained.

Personally, I am not a fan of the SW storyline and don’t plan to go see this in the theatre.

I think for some reason Disney thinks that live-action remakes of animated movies seem to get strong reviews from the audience that watches them in theaters. This live-action remakes of animated movies started for Disney with the live-action Cinderella which I think Disney hopes that Snow White will be successful like. But I think why the live-action Cinderella failed was because it wasn't a musical and why they cast Lily James as Cinderella was to make Lily's mark in Hollywood and due to Cinderella Lily James went on to become a top actress appearing in Mamma Mia Here We Go Again and other movies and with Snow White Rachel Zegler will make a bigger name for herself in Hollywood. But I think with Snow White Disney has proven that live-action remakes of animated movies seem to make millions at the box-office. But once Snow White is in theaters for two weeks it will become a Disney+ exclusive like Cruella the live-action Mulan and Onward and Soul were when they were released in 2020 and 2021

Just like they did with Ariel when the live-action The Little Mermaid debuted in 2023 I think Disney Parks will update the Snow White character with her new movie outfit and this new Snow White character would be a hit if she were to exist. But the biggest draw that will make Snow White recieve rave reviews is that Mattel will release dolls and toys based on the movie and kids love movie toys and when you're a toy company that makes movie toys the toy sales help the movie do well in theaters which is what Disney is hoping for with Snow White

I personally think Disney is obsessed with live-action versions of movies because in their eyes they think that live-action movies make more money than animated movies but they have done live-action remakes of animated movies before and it seemed to make Disney a ton of money. Look at the live-action 101 Dalmatians that debuted in 1996 and when that movie it did so well that Disney even created the sequel 102 Dalmatians and the reason why it did well was because of Glenn Close as Cruella. But I think with Snow White if it gets a good reaction Disney probably will make a Snow White II in the future. I mean Disney is doing the same thing with the live-action The Little Mermaid by developing a live-action version of The Little Mermaid II. Disney should focus on creating more animated movies that are original and have good storylines. But I think if Snow White makes money Disney will begin it's miracle year because it's about time that Disney began it's miracle year in movies
Do you agree?
