Will TarzansKat meet Captain Jack? ~A Pirate's Life for 3 Pre-Trippie~ We're back!

I have to agree about the airfare. It's really not looking as if the airfare is going to get much better before December, and if it doesn't and you change, you also won't have free dining.

Maybe adjust your trip by a day or two for a better flight. Even if you stay and extra day and just spend it by the pool.

Here: I will make your decision for you. You are going in September as planned, staying at the Wilderness Lodge, and enjoying free dining. There, don't you feel better now? :goodvibes

I hope this brightens your day a bit.

I got this from rumblytumbly's DISigns. Click on the link for her works. She is no longer customizing but thought it was still appropriate for TK.

Honestly, I think you should just stick with the Wilderness Lodge in September. You have been looking forward to it so much.

 First, breathe. Relax, and think of the bigger picture. This is your trip, for the TK family. You've so been looking forward to this.

Hopefully it gets better!

I'm getting the overwhelming feeling that everyone thinks I should stick with September.;)

Ooooooooo.....mama like! ::yes::

Obviously, I'm having a rough day. And it's apparent to me that during said rough day, it's important not to lose sight of one thing, and one thing only...

Will TarzansKat meet Captain Jack?

Isn't that how this all started anyway. Never mind the free dining, and the resort flip-floppin', and the angst over the stimulus check not being used on the student loan?

To plagirize Walt slightly, don't we have to remember one thing. That this was all started by one smokin' hot pirate.pirate:

And for my DH, pirate: , who really is MY Captain Jack Sparrow.

And for my DS, :yay: , who is growing by the minute and for the thousand ways he'll surprise us on this trip with new things that excite him and old favorites to be revisited.

And for me....

Oh boy...

For me, pirate: princess: , a pirate princess who really just wants some unplanned time with her family...in the happiest place on earth.

I hate the airfare guys, okay? I just want to state that up front. It makes me  If I actually have to pay over $900 for airfare that's pretty dang close to what it's going to cost us to send the boy to preschool this year. It's absolutely terrifying to me. Add that to my eye appointment because my contact prescription expired, and my insurance only covers one visit every two years, so this ones not covered. Our car insurance is due soon. I haven't had my eyebrows done in weeks. Laugh if you must, but it's the only girly thing I do. Everything just piles on all at once and it feels like sooooo much. Like too much. Like why am I doing this too much.

:::sigh:::

Will TarzansKat meet Captain Jack?

Well, I went online first thing and there are airfare specials but not for where we'd be flying out of.

Came home from working out and there is a DING fare, but only Mon-Wed or Mon-Fri.

I will never, ever, ever, ever book a trip on a weekend again. I always did Tues to Tues or Wed to Tues, and I was trying to be corteous to DH's employer.

I am getting very upset now. I cannot even fathom paying $1000 for airfare. Do I have the money? Yes. Do I think it's totally ridiculous? Yes. Am I thinking about calling free dining a wash and booking at a different time of year? Yup.

I can wait one more week since perhaps it's mid July that Southwest will offer the fare compared to historical data.

I just don't know what to do anymore.:guilty:

Alright, I have a totally hare-brained idea.

Bare with me. Well, not bare. Because this is a family board.;)

What if I scrapped this trip and went in December for DH's as yet unspeakable birthday?

What if I changed our dates so that we were flying on a Tues/Wed, and therefore didn't incur flying on the weekend fares?

I've priced it out.

It's potentially less if we stay at a mod, which I'm okay with, and even pay for the dining plan.

I'm betwixt and between.

Thoughts?

Ok, so I mostly agree with everyone else that if you change, I think you'll be disappointed. Particularly if you change resorts. We have a tendency, when unhappy and wanting to fix things IMMEDIATELY, to say, "Oh, I'd be ok with that." And then we are...until what we gave up really sinks in. So I say this, if you truly are going to consider changing the trip, dates, resorts and all, give it some good thought. Like maybe that week you were thinking about waiting on Southwest on.

And just a thought/observation, if you were to change to December, you'd lose out on free dining. And I just took a random gander at SW for December for departure/return on a Tues./Wed. and the rates are equal to or higher than what you could pay for September. So, you'd downgrade resorts, pay the same for flights (because I have a feeling airfare is going to get worse before it gets better) and forego free dining. I'm certainly not trying to dissuade you from whatever decision is ultimately right for the TK clan, however, things get clouded when we're upset.

I plugged in your dates for flights into both Southwest and Expedia, and while I can't necessarily choose the best flights in terms of times that work for your family, I could choose the best rates and this is what I came up with:

SW: $777 total (at $119 rates each, each way)
Expedia: $825 (average of $275 RT, per person)

And, if you really think about it, you'll have this angst regardles of when you go. Because frankly, airfare SUCKS right now. I totally get it. $476 v. $777 is a HUGE difference (63% increase). I felt the same way. It used to cost me, at the most, $180 RT and this time around I'm paying $290 (61% increase). And like I said above, I don't think it'll be changing for the better anytime soon.

I want you to be happy with your trip to the World. It shouldn't be something that causes you so much stress and worry. But before you do anything, I suggest you take a deep breath, eat a Reese's sundae, process ALL of the information you have and talk it over with DH.

You're right.

It's an I want it fixed yesterday mentality.

I could wait the week and see if Southwest drops. If it hasn't by next week I'm going to have to bite the bullet and book something.

I'm also stressed because my mom informed me she'll be away the weekend we come back. My father works nights and doesn't get home usually until after 1pm. So that earlier return flight, I'm pretty sure you know what I'm talking about, well, we'd be SOL for having someone pick us up. Blech.

We won't get into the stuff with my mom. That's a whole other world of whatnot.

Ok, I'm in problem-solver mode today (must be because it's the first day back to work):

Could you ask your mom or dad to drop off your car in the long-term/short-term lot the day before you come in so that you could take said cheaper a.m. flight and only have to pay a tiny bit for that one day of parking, which would likely work out to be much less than taking a later flight?

No. I've never divulged our exact location, but those aren't it.:goodvibes

I think I know which one then.....have you priced Manchester & Providence (plus looking a gas to get there and parking of course)?

My original airfare budget was $500...then I moved it up to $650.....I spent $750. Once other airlines cut flights to Orlando starting in November, SW raised prices. But for me $250 isn't a deal breaker.

I will totally come over and do your eyebrows.

I "manscape" BF's.

::sssshhhh::

Don't tell BF I totally just told all of the DIS that I do his eyebrows. ;)

Oh lord! :lmao:

Do you think there's any way that you could possibly convince my DH to do his? They are atrocious! I mean, I love him, don't get me wrong, but :scared1:

Seriously, you do eyebrows? Do you wax or pluck?

My mom will be gone the whole weekend, as will nana. That will only work if they drop it off on Friday before they leave. I guess anything's possible, I could always ask.

I haven't because I know by the time I dealt with gas and the hassle of getting there with a toddler, it just wouldn't be worth it to me.

Actually, my original airfare budget was $500 as well, before this whole gas/fuel crisis hit. Now with the way things are going, I know that's not realistic. I'm just having a hard time swallowing this last piece of the "splurge" vacation, kwim? I've splurged on everything else, I wanted bargain airfare. I know I sound spoiled, but it was a HUGE deal for me to book the Wilderness Lodge and be able to justify it. And I totally I have, and I can't wait to stay there.

Dangnabit rising fuel costs!!!!

TK I totally relate to what you are going through right now. I did this about....a month ago? Maybe less. Craziness sets in and you just want everything fixed NOW. It's a complete feeling of uneasiness and I totally get that. I hate it. It makes me crazy.

I think Tink's suggestion about asking someone to drop your car is awesome.

And to answer your question...YES TK will meet Captain Jack! pirate:

You and I are very similar like that.

A couple more hours and DH will be home. Then we can hash it all out, and he'll bring me back to reality and tell me to spend the money on the airfare, thereby increasing the debt to be repaid (DH's, not the credit card), and everything will be all hunky dory.:lmao:

Of course TK will meet CJ! To consider otherwise is ludicrous.

LOL I could try. BF used to do the middle on his own anyway as I think he had a deathly fear of having a unibrow (which he wouldn't but YOU try telling him that), then one night I said, "Just let me clean up the sides there." He put his head in my lap and let me go at his eyebrows with the tweezers and the rest is history.

Seriously, you do eyebrows? Do you wax or pluck?

Pluck (and if it's A LOT to be plucked, I ice first to numb it up). However I have been giving thought to trying a natural sugar-based wax made by bliss.

My mom will be gone the whole weekend, as will nana. That will only work if they drop it off on Friday before they leave. I guess anything's possible, I could always ask.

It could still work if the couple of days parking fees (Fri.-Sun.) are less than the total airfare of the more expensive flights. It was just a thought. I want my TK happy. :goodvibes

Oh, I'm sure he'll be quite thrilled.:rotfl:

I have someone who I absolutely LOVE who waxes them, doesn't charge a lot, and they're perfect every time. It's just getting there lately. I haven't been in weeks and they look awful. I wonder if I should try plucking myself. Probably not, in my current state of emotion, I'm apt ot make a mistake.

I'll definitely have to look into it.
