Will switching to room only cause us to lose our room discount?

Here's our situation. We are thinking of booking a trip with the current promotion. We are thinking of adding tickets now to lock in these prices. I would prefer to get them from AAA (best value so far) but with having to have park passes and such and being stuck with tickets if we have to cancel it makes us hesitant. What might get us to purchase tickets else where would be if my in laws decide to join us. They are able to purchase military tickets. This is a giant savings. If we book our room with the current promotion and add tickets will we be able to keep the room discount if we drop the tickets later? It's a room only discount that's available. We may also opt to book a full price room that falls after the promotion date. Could we change it to room only if our in laws join us? So basically if we book a pkg can we switch that to room only and if we do can we keep the room only discount if we booked with a discount? Thanks

If you have to drop the tickets, you can modify the package to a “basic package” which is a room-only under package terms and conditions. You would need to do this more than 30 days prior to arrival or you will be charged a $50 change fee. As long as you don’t modify the dates you should be able to keep the discount. If the first CM you speak with doesn’t know how to make the modification, ask to speak with someone in guest services.

The only way it's an issue is if the package you book includes tickets as part of the promotion. I don't believe there are any like this right now. It was, for instance, when they offered Free Dining promotions.

Your post is confusing. If it's a room only discount, why don't you just book the room and add tickets once your plans are more secure? Maybe separate the questions, they are all running into each other.
I believe they want to do the package because it's the only way tickets are refundable.
If you book separate they are not (to my knowledge)

Along with getting the tickets at the current price.
Sorry to the person that suggested separate questions. It is confusing but not really separate questions.

We want to book the room only discount that's currently offered. We are thinking to go ahead and add tickets now to get them at the current price and yes they are refundable. I left that out b/c it was already confusing enough. My in laws my join us. If they do we may drop the tickets we have with the package because we would be able to get military tickets. We would want to make sure our dates are set b/c they are nonrefundable. Was hooping to be able to still keep the room discount. Our other option is to book a full price room for later in the summer and also add tickets for the same reasons as mentioned above. We wouldn't be worried about keeping the discount but just being able to cancel the tickets.

In the past, pre-FP+ we never bought a pkg unless it was free dining. Then with FP+ we always bought a pkg so the tickets would be refundable if something happened. We are not current on policy. We went every year until 2020 when our trip dates and hotel were changed too many times to count and we were never able to make it work. Then all of the stupid changes and we went to Universal and had the times of our lives. But our oldest son is graduating from high school and we can't imagine not going this summer so we are trying to suck it up and deal with the Disney crap and go and have at least one last good time.
