Will Star Tours make me nauseous?

I Don't get sick easy on rides unless they're real spinny, but Mission Space made me so sick to my stomach a few years back that now I'm a little afraid of these virtual rides.

While Mission Space brings me to my knees, I've never, ever had a problem on Star Tours, old or new version.

It might. Star Tours doesn't spin, but I've had motion sickness on this ride before, but not severely. I find that if I start to feel sick I just need to focus my eyes on something other than the screen for a minute or two, or close my eyes, and then I'm fine.

If you rode the orange version of Mission Space, it's not surprising that you felt nauseated afterwards. Next time, try the green side. Much tamer.

I don't get sick on a lot of things, but did get sick on Star Tours. Dramamine is always good.

The old version never bothered me. But when I rode the new version last time, I came off very nauseated. So I have decided to sit this one out this trip.
On the other hand it did not bother my 5 kids in the least!

It is one of the few rides that make me nauseous. But my husband who cannot ride spinning rides like MS orange, the teacups, even the carousel, can ride Star tours without issue.

Yep. It most likely wasn't the fact that Mission: Space is a virtual ride that made you sick; it was the fact that the orange side spins.

Mission Space actually spins. Star Tours does not. HUGE difference.

Motion sickness generally = a difference between what you eyes are telling you, and what your brain is telling you.

On Mission space, closing your eyes is a bad idea, it will actually make you more aware of the spinning. the idea that you are NOT spinning comes from the screen.

On Star Tours, there is no spinning, period. Beyond that, nearly all the 'motion' is virtual. It happens on the screen in front of you. Close your eyes and all you will feel is a tipping motion, like riding a bike uphill/downhill.

So basically, if you close your eyes on Star Tours, you can pretty much eliminate most of the motion you are feeling.

Harry Potter is a bit like Star Tours, but with a bit more actual motion. Still, the same idea- closing your eyes will greatly reduce the amount of motion you feel, at least if you close your eye for the video portions of the ride. (and maybe open them for the actual motion parts, even though the actual motion is pretty tame. HP doesn't exactly spin....but your seat rotates on the end of a large arm in various sections.

My wife gets motion sick very easily. Star Tours she has ridden multiple times in a row and not had any issues. One trip on Mission Space and she was back in the room for the day.

I have experienced some mild motion sickness. I found that if I closed my eyes I started to feel better.

My sister can do rides like Expedition Everest - no problem. But Star Tours (since the re-do) made her motion sick. She found that if she takes Bonine in the morning, no issues! :)

I will never do Mission Space orange line again.....

Star Tours gave me very mild motion sickness this last trip but not bad at all...

Star Tours made me nauseous. Not to the point of running to the bathroom or anything I was walked around feeling a little queasy for about a half hour afterwards. Also the ride jerks you around pretty hard, that wasn't enjoyable for me either.

My oldest DS has issues with motion sickness, and the revamped Star Tours made him very nauseous (never had a problem with Star Tours prior to the renovation).

As you can tell from these varied responses, you may, or may not experience a sensation of motion sickness from this ride. It is difficult to predict someone else's response. There is only one sure way for you to know and that is trial and error. It would be irresponsible for anyone here to tell you: "No way will you get sick. It's a tame ride." (And no one has said that.) It is possible, and unpredictable.

I never rely g motin sick and can handle most anything, but I will say that Star Tours types of rides are the most likely to give me that hot/flushed feeling. There's something about it that gets to me just a little, and that's usually jsut my first ride. Once the ride ends I am perfectly fine again.

My DIL love Star Wars movies & characters, and she loves Star Tours...but one ride only. She does get motion sickness, and Star Tours will trigger it for her. Mild enough that she will put up with it for one ride: because she loves the Star Tours ride. But it's bad enough that she will not go ride it a 2nd or 3rd time with her husband (my son) She would like to...just won't take the chance of getting an even worse case of motion sickness.

Interesting fact: Star Tours is actually designed to make you feel nauseous. Because the ride motion itself is very mild given the space constraints, The video feed is intentionally unsynchronized with the motion to confuse your vestibular system and make the ride feel more extreme. However, the nice people at Disney don't want you to have a miserable day after having fun on Star Tours, so there is a mist of cold air as you walk through the exit chamber to help quell the nausea.

I can feel the effects of the motion, but I'm fine by the time we walk down the ramp to Tattooine Traders. It takes slightly longer to wear off for DH, but he's such a big SW fan that he never complains!!

To minimize the effects of the motion sickness, try to sit in the middle of row 3 or 4 because the best synchronization is in the middle of the room and as someone else suggested, close your eyes because that will allow your vestibular system to realign itself and get you back to feeling normal quicker.
