Will Smith Genie?

Could be a rumour but Will Smith could be in line to play the Genie in latest live action of Aladdin, could be good!

I don't think anybody other then Robin would ever sit well for me as the Genie, but Will could be good! He's one of the better options that there would be IMO

Good grief, what a bad idea.

NOBODY will ever touch Robin Williams, but I can think of others off the top of my head whose humor/style would be a much better fit than Will Smith....

If they turned him down for that, don't you all think the chances are he might ask the same for this, and they'd turn him down again? Or am I mis-thinking here?

We saw the show in Toronto before it moved to Broadway. Wasn't the genie amazing?

I wonder if the part in Dumbo he was offered was smaller. The Genie is a huge part - if not "the" part in Aladdin - so Disney might be more apt to pay $20 million for an actor they think is right. In Dumbo, I'm assuming he would have been a supporting role, which 20 million would probably be a bit ridiculous for (I mean, 20 million seems ridiculous to me for anything, but it's Hollywood so who knows).

I don't think he'd be a good fit, but as others have pointed out, there's no replacing Robin Williams. James Iglehart would be great, but his Genie is very different from Robin's genie (much more pop-culture based) and I think that's what this movie will have to do. There's no competing with Robin's genie, so they won't even try.

I don't think I could see anyone else playing Genie but Robin. The way he brought the character to life was pure talent and magic. I can't think of another actor that could even come close.

I saw John Tartaglia as the Genie at the Muny in St Louis. He was excellent! It's an outdoor theatre - he rode in from the back seats on a motorcycle; broke the fourth wall a bit. Really funny. Still not Robin, but NOBODY is that frenetic.
