Will Regalo cot fit in a suitcase?

We are planning to stay at AoA family suite with 3 adults (me, hubby and my mom) and 3 kids (ages 14, 7 and 4.) I am concerned that my 14yo DSD will not want to sleep with either of her brothers, and will be too crowded with Gramma. We have already decided that, mean or not, since we're shelling out the most cash, hubby and I get the queen bed. :rotfl: So that leaves my mom and 3 kids to share the 2 double pull-out beds.

I saw on another post someone mention the Regalo cot and it looks really cool. I think my oldest son (he'll be 7 when we go to WDW) will definitely be fine sleeping in that, and probably think it's the coolest thing ever. (He's pretty tiny, and will be well below the max height/weight restrictions for the cot.) Then my youngest can share a bed with Gramma, and DSD gets her own bed.

My problem is transporting the cot to/from the resort. I haven't bought it yet, and can't seem to find any info on the dimensions when folded, other than it only weighs 4 lbs. Does anyone has one, and if so, will it fit in a suitcase? Or can it be counted as a carry-on when folded and placed in the little carrying bag?

Thanks for any info you can give me!

I can't speak for the cot, but if you have to take the cushions off the sofa to open it, could one of the younger kids sleep on the cushions on the floor? As the youngest in a large family, I often got the sofa cushions on the floor. When you're little, it's pretty comfy! :)

I hadn't thought of that, but that's a good suggestion, too. I'm not sure how the pull-out works, but I imagine there must be removable cushions, right?

I'm also thinking maybe an air mattress, but they are so big - I am concerned about the room they would take up. And not sure how well they travel in suitcases either. :confused3

We have the cot and have packed it in a suitcase (out of the box) and brought it to Disney, the box will not fit in a suitcase. With the cot unboxed we were also able to make use of that space by tucking socks into the spaces between the bars. It fit right down the center of the suitcase where the handle part is, it would not slide to the side, so it was a tighter fit but doable for sure.

As for a 7y/o sleeping in it, I'm not so sure. We brought it when my dd was 5.5 (47", 45lbs) and she was what I would think is the max height you would want to be in it and still be semi comfy. My then 7y/o loved sitting on it but wouldn't sleep in it. Heck even my dd wouldn't sleep in it and instead chose to pull the footrest up to the chair at the Poly and created a bed from that (so yes we brought it and it was unused the whole trip :sad2:). So if you purchase it try having your son give it a try at home, maybe even sleep in a night or 2 (where I went wrong, only showed and did not try sleeping in before hand), this way they are familiar with it and it's not foreign to them.

As for couch cushions, I am not sure how the ones work at AoA, however on the Poly daybed you left the cushions on (they were not removable) and you pulled a tab thing and the cushions folded into the couch to reveal the daybed. Brilliant idea though to use those, will have to keep that in mind for future travels elsewhere. :thumbsup2

My son is pretty tiny - he's 6 years old now and about 45" - I don't think he'll have a huge growth spurt before November, but that's definitely a good idea about trying it out at home first!! :) My little guy is only about 41", but I'm pretty sure he would prefer to sleep with Gramma! We have a toddler bed for him and once pulled it into our room right next to our bed when he was having trouble sleeping alone, and still we found him in our bed when we woke up in the morning!! He's a cuddler - prefers not to sleep alone. :)

Have you considered a twin-size AeroBed? If you purchase a standard one (not raised), it probably would fit in a suitcase easily. "Probably" because I currently don't have one to test!

That would have a longer life span than something your DS would outgrow within a year or so.

Another thought would be a camping pad, or a kindermat. The cot would probably fit in a suitcase, but as mentioned, your son will outgrow it pretty quickly.

On the wal mart . com I bought an air mattress for sleep overs for dd 15 and they had cool purple colors, comfort at half the weight of a twin air mattress.
It travels in a tiny tote. The only thing with air mattresses are, make sure they do not leak air before you leave. One camping trip we stopped at Walmart and got one, not sure if it was the coleman or the blue one, but it leaked tons by morning.
