Please don't make this political...

I hope he will be able to get the two female reporters released quickly with this trip to North Korea. I am sure it is devastating to their families (and of course to them) that the situation has unfolded the way it has.

I sure hope so!!! I think it's positive that he's been received so warmly especially because they know why he's there. Gosh I hope he gets them out!!!!

I think he will be able to do it. He IS Bill Clinton, this guy has alot of stuff up his sleeves.

I think the "deal", whatever it may involve, has already been made. I don't think Clinton would go there for a "maybe". I think that his visit is probably the final piece of the negotiated deal.

One of the reporters held in NK is the sister of Lisa Ling, an investigative reporter for National Geographic. She did an "inside North Korea" special that certainly angered the Kim regime. At one point she was helping to smuggle cell phones into NK and meeting with defectors. I wonder if Lisa Ling's expose played a role in NK's decision to hold and sentence her sister and the other journalist.

I think you're probably right. Having an ex-president visit and "negotiate" (no matter who it is) is a HUGE deal and makes them appear more powerful.

CNN just said the two women have been granted a "Special Pardon." They hopefully will be flying home on Pres. Clinton's plane with him! :dance3:

That is great but they are on Clinton's plane you say...hmm they are not out of the woods yet.

Agreed.

awesome news!!!!

These two have been in my thoughts! This is great news, whoever/however it was arranged!!!

Great news!

There's something kind of valuable about having an ex-President who needs redemption...he raises money for tsunami victims, travels to Haiti and N. Korea...beats playing golf.

He doesn't need any redemption from me. He was a good President and he has been a good former President.

GREAT news!!!

(about the "pardoned" journalists, that is. I'll reserve my views on Clinton, to keep this non-political . . . :rolleyes1)

That was nasty and uncalled for.

Now, Deb, I expect better from you!!:rotfl:

I think whoever said a deal had already been negotiated was probably right- but it's still fantastic news!!!!

This is wonderful news! I am curious about what we have to give in return? Whatever the deal is, I am very happy for these two young women.

Of course, we still have the three young backpackers in Iran. Don't you know that the president and the state department say "oh [explitive]" every time one of these crossing the wrong border cases comes up?

I sure appreciate what the former Pres has done to get these women out of prison in NK. I watched, on TV, the rally held in San Francisco last month (or maybe June?). It saddened me that these women were being held. I hope they make it out OK.

I had been following the story on facebook, they have been having lots of prayer vigils for them. I am glad they are coming home!
