If we store it in the safe in our room at the POP?
DH's vacation pay check was a paper one instead of direct deposited. We didn't know they were going to do that until he got it last night so yesterday I went and withdrew cash at the ATM.
We are leaving tomorrow morning and I don't have time today to drive to the bank and back which is an hour away (one way) from us.

should be. It is a key safe, and I always take the key to the safe with us. into the park.

I would make a copy of the check and then mail the check with a deposit slip filled out to the bank.

Ditto. We leave our money and my jewelry in the safe (I always keep a count in my head or written down in my pocket) and take the key with me. We have never had any issues. The last time our youngest son was with us (he is 19 now and was 11 at the time) lost his wallet in the room. We searched and searched and could not find it. We got home and two weeks later his wallet was returned to us in the mail, money still inside. Mousekeeping had found it stuck behind the headboard of the bed and the wall.

That's awesome! I think we will be okay then ;)

So, POP uses keys??

Is that common in all Disney O&O resorts, or is it a "value thing"????

That's surprising, given that my usual resort (SoG) has digital safes, allowing their guests to use a PIN of their choosing.

IMO, that gives you one less thing to worry about losing at the parks (key).

At the Contemporary, Polynesian, Grand Floridian and Wilderness Lodge they now added safes where you select a 4 digit code to open them, so no key is used. I think they were added to them because their rooms were all renovated, so maybe you will eventually see them at all WDW Resorts in the future.

I just stayed at the WL conceirge at the beginning of the month and it still had the key but I know the poly and gf have the key pad

I would have assumed the Wilderness Lodge had the new safes since the Contemporary and Polynesian had them after their room renovations.

When we stayed at POP we used the key and hid it in our luggage so we didnt have the chance to loose it. Because if you do loose it I think there is a fee of 20-25 dollars. Don't quote me on the actual fee amount I just remember it was something like that. It was the same situation at CBR.

Are these keys the kind that you could put on your own keychains?

All the Disney resorts I've stayed in use keys.
He's just saying that because he wants to steal your money. ;) :)

Some have keys. You can put them on your key chain if you'll be carrying that about, but the plastic (or rubber) card thingie attached to them is kind of big.

Some have that electronic number thing going on. I gave it a shot by closing it while it was empty and trying to re-open it and couldn't figure out how to do it. Can't help you there.

Good luck and have fun!

p.s. Jimmie's about the last poster I think would try to steal your money.

I did the same thing with the key! I don't want to have to carry anything else that I might misplace.

Have you thought of converting some of it to a Disney Gift card that you can use at WDW? I would do it only for the amount that I would be spending at the WDW.

Just a note when we stayed at the GF it had a digital safe. To others if you lose the key they charge you a fee so I was told when I stay in ones that had keys. I am not sure if hotel managers have a spare sets of keys this I just don't know. I am not the keeper of the safe keys as DH is so if he loses it it is his worries ;) I try not to use the safe unless I have to. Don't know why but sometimes I don't & sometimes I do.:surfweb:

OP:

If you can resist the temptation (many, myself included, might not be so successful in that endeavor), why not just put all the cash ON the room rather than leaving it IN the room?

Keep a bit for tips and such, but just leave the majority of it as a deposit at the front desk when you check in, which you will be allowed to charge against using your key card.

Then, when you check out, they'll give you the change. If there IS any...

Just a suggestion! HTH!
