I'm traveling with my mom and DH to wdw next month. They have two completely different disabilities. My husband gets a GAC for a health related disability that allows us to use an alternative entrance/ handicap but my mom's disablity is physical. She cannot do stairs, ride vehicles with step-downs or moving loading areas. The rides that can be stopped will have to be while we assist her with boarding. So will I also need to get a GAC for her also? She will be using a
scooter or wheelchair. Thanks
Guests dont need a GAC to use a scooter or wheelchair in lines.
When CMs see mobility device, they know that person needs to be routed to a way that is wheelchair accessible.
All lines are wheelchair accessible up to the boarding area, except for a few, which guests need to be ambulatory to go on - Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority are the only 2 I can think of off-hand.
There are some lines which are not
ECV accessible, but those will have a wheelchair available that she can transfer to. Just have her drive the ECV up to the attraction entrance and let the CM know she will need a wheelchair. It is possible that there may be a slight wait if all the attraction wheelchairs are already in use.
The only attractions that are not a complete stop for boarding and unloading are the few which having moving walkways. All the attractions without moving walkways are at a complete stop for all guests. The CM who is dispatching the ride cars watches and does not send a ride car on its way until all guests are in and seated.
For the rides with moving walkways, CMs usually slow them when someone with a mobility device is boarding. For most people slowing it is enough, but if she needs it slower or even stopped, you will need to tell the CM. There is not a GAC message for that.
There are 2 attractions which have moving walkways that cant be slowed or stopped - Peter Pan and Tomorrowland Transit Authority. There is also a steep moving walkway to get out of Pirates after riding - look to the left for a hallway with an elevator.
If she cant step down, there is nothing a GAC can do for those attractions.
Look in posts 18-21 on page 2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread for more information, including which attractions have moving walkways, which have wheelchair cars and boarding information, such as which have a big step down or a big step over the side.
You can find that thread near the top of this board or follow the link in my signature to page 1 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread.
