Will milk be available at airport early a.m. - 5:30

Just wondering if we can buy a pint or 8 oz. of whole milk
at the airport before our 6:40 am flight or should we bring milk with us for a one-year old...

Check with your airline. Milk is probably available as a beverage choice onboard.

Be sure to check your airline because I know it was not an option for us once. At the time, my DD didn't like much else!

I am also thinking restaurants might not be open. My next thought is will they let you take it through security? Sorry, not a lot of good thoughts on my part! Hopefully your airline has it!!

I would check the airports website to see what stores/coffee shops/restaurants are in the terminal and try to check out the hours.
Chances are, there will be a Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Caribou Coffee or something of that sort, and it will be open...and those places almost always have milk available for purchase.

I second what K and K's Mommy said above. I'm not sure what to tell you...most airport shops are not open that early, and you will not be able to take milk that you bring from home through security....

If you're flying out of Newark, I seem to remember some of the shops open around 6 am, so you should be able to pick something up. But generally you're allowed to travel with liquids for a baby (please see TSA webside for more details)- we've been allowed through security with juice bottles, and other liquids for a baby. One thought might be to pour the milk directly into a bottle or sippy cup, so there is no question it is for a baby. I put all my baby liquids, etc., into a ziplock and put it through separately, letting security know.

DS and I have flown all over, no trouble, even through Newark on Continental. That way, you're not counting on the airline having something you need - because sometimes they run out (esp. if there are long flight delays), or they had delays and are not able to stock the plane with beverages for shorter flights.

Most flights don't carry milk onboard anymore usually just creamer for coffee but as a pp said you can find a list of onboard beverages on most airlines websites.

That early in the am you may find milk in the coffee shops, see if your airport has a website, somtimes they list the vendors. If there is a McDonalds, BK etc and they are open they will definately have milk.

For a 1yo you should be able to carry some onboard. Because some of the TSA agents are more strict than others I would put it in a baby bottle to transport and then if necessary transfer it to a cup if the baby isn't using a bottle anymore.

OTOH - I personally avoid giving my kids dairy before a flight in case of airsickness. While dairy won't make them sick if they do get sick it makes things more difficult to deal with. If you can give the child clear juice in the am and then serve milk at the desintation I would consider that.

We live by a hub airport and so once we went through security, we were able to find milk and juice at one of the concession stands. If they have a Starbucks in your airport, you should be good to go!

PS - This was out of Philly and it was an early morning flight.

We did keep it out separate so security knew we had it.

Should is the operative word here! We fly often, dh even more than I and we have seen lots

I have seen security make parents discard milk in a sippie cup for a toddler while others pass them through with no issues. TSA guidelines specificly refer to breastmilk and formula as being allowed but "milk" is not mentioned. That said, the TSA isn't allowed to test or make you test the contents of the bottle. It seems they will let anything resembling formula (could be milk, formula or breastmilk) in a baby bottle through without a problem. However, bottles of water/juice and anything in a sippie cup is subject to interpertation by the agent.

I know that at MCO, the McDonald's in the Southwest area was open pretty darn early. It must have been open by 5AM because when we got there it was already open. Our DME bus picked us up at 4:15 AM. (Yawn!)
