Will I need to buy thermals for our Feb trip?

HI everyone

We are heading off for 3 nights on 5th Feb for my 40th banana: ) and I have been reading about how cold it has been for the last couple of weeks. We went once b4 at this time of year about 7 years ago but don't remember it being sub zero temps!

Anyway my question is should I be getting thermals or skiwear for the family, we live in London so wouldn't normally need them and don't want to spend too much as we will need every penny for the trip itself, on the other hand it will all be wasted money if we are too cold to enjoy ourselves Was planning on layering normal clothes and of course taking coats/jackets, hats, gloves and scarves etc as well as normal boots.

Have been checking Accuweather and the next 15 days seems to be slightly milder (0 degrees as opposed to -5!) but forecast for our dates won't be available for a while yet.

Anyone who has been at this time of year before or who is going soon got any advice??

I would say get both, it is freezing out there the moment...colder then here.

I bought salopettes for less than £10 from ebay for my eldest two girls. I bought cheap fleeces and thermal vests and waterproof boots. I will let you know if we were warm enough next week.

I would take thermals without a doubt.

Although I was warm enough with woolly tights under my jeans.I did have a thermal top and thermal socks.

My boys wore salopettes above their jeans and layers of normal tops

hi i am going the 1st of feb and we all bought ski jackets and i ordered one from ebay for my little girl. i am bringing boots leggings themal socks and fleeces. i hate to be cold and the only hat i could find in town has a giant bauble on the top and i dont care lol. i totally agree i didnt want to spend the money as i wont wear the ski jacket here but it would ruin my trip if i was freezing

hi, we took thermals from primark that only cost £2.50 each for the long johns and vests and they worked really well!! we were a bit worried that they would be much good as so cheap, but for a trip rather than daily wear, they were well worth getting! (Just a hint, the mens dept are half the price of the womens thermals!!)

Take thermals definitely! If you don't need them then great but take everything you may need because the weather is so unpredictable and can make or break your holiday.
The first time I went around Easter 2003 it was very hot. This October it was literally freezing. When I went in January 2006 it was mild and sunny .
Take it all and I hope its great weather and you find yourselves in T shirts!

We left disneyland on Tuesday and it was freezing and had snowed. I would go prepared as i expect long ques.

We went in December and we had Thermals on under our jeans -Kids had ski suits to keep them cosy (got them in Adams sale for £7.50!) but ski suits were especially handy for our toddler who tripped up a lot on -It didn't matter if the ground was a bit damp when she was falling over in her ski suit.

We have been in Feb about 8 years ago and it was freeeeeezing!!!

Thanks for all the replies - have been trawling ebay and managed to get some new thermals for everyone for reasonable prices. Not sure about ski wear yet, The kids are aged between 7 and 11 so not sure they will need skisuits.I think I will wait until the end of next week when I can check the 15 day forecast as postage on those items is v.high as they are so bulky.

They had some ski suits - well, salopettes and jackets - in Aldi this week for about £15 for both.

I would definitely not go without thermals. We left DLP yesterday and at -4 it was the mildest day When we arrived in the taxi the first day (last Sunday) the thermometer read -12 . It really was sooooo cold, we had thermals and loads of layers on top. I had proper ski gloves and my hands were still frozen and on my feet I had 3 pairs of socks and furry lined boots and my feet were numb after an hour in the parks.

We got them too. They do foot warmers aswell and I forgot all about them. I remembered on the second last night and put them in DS's shoes to try and heat his feet up a bit. He says they worked great just wish I'd remembered earlier in the week

The Little Hotties are the business crack them open and heat for fingers for a long time. When my toes were cold I even put them in my boots.

We went in Feb half term last year and I would definitely get thermals for the children at least. DH & I didn't have thermals but we did get proper ski jackets (from Matalan, very reasonable) as they have the special lining that really does keep you warmer - and it worked! We also got the disposable hand warmers. It wasn't anywhere near as cold as it seems to have been just recently but they were still much needed.

I've been looking at the foot warmers, I was just wondering if they'd make your shoes feel tight it says they're sticky and you put them inside your socks. I get terrible cold feet at the best of times, these could change my life.

oooh where do you get the foot warmer ones from ?

OP i would def get a thermal layer,it makes all the difference
then even if you dont go for ski type jackets etc,with a normal "big winter coat" and another 1 or 2 lighter layers underneath you should be ok

with gloves,hat etc too of course
