Will I get rewards points when purchasing a Disney Gift Card?

Just wondering if the purchase of a gift card at the Disney Store is treated any differently than a regular purchase and whether or not I'll get rewards points for the purchase.

TIA for any info.

Was wondering the same thing this morning. I checked the website for terms and conditions and it said,

"You can accrue promotional rewards in the form of "Disney Dream Reward Dollars" by making retail purchases of goods or services ("Purchase") using the Disney Rewards Visa Card issued in your name."

I was trying to remember if I've purchased gift cards for other places and gotten credit, but I'm not sure. Since a gift card isn't a good or service, I would think the answer would be no, but I'd also appreciate input from other's experience.

OK, according to Chase gift card purchases are eligible for rewards. Here's their reply:

Dear xxxx,

Thank you for contacting us with your inquiry. You will earn Disney
Dream Reward Dollars on all purchases made at the Disney Store with your
Disney Rewards Visa Card from Chase.

Please let us know if we may be of any additional assistance.

Sincerely,

Disney Rewards Guest Service

Woooo Whoooo!! I'll be buying cards to make payments on our upcoming trip. Don't know why I never thought to do this before!

That's a good idea! I wish I had thought of that before now :)

I'm confused???

Why wouldn't you just use your chase card to make payments? you'd still earn credits that way.

One HUGE caveat.... if you cancel your trip, all of those payments are going to be returned to you on Disney gift cards. Personally, I would not want to tie up a large amount of money on a gift card. To each his/her own, but I would rather have the credit to my credit card. I travel to WDW pretty much yearly, but the thought of having that much money just sitting there on a GC makes me cringe...

Just trying to give you some food for thought... not start a debate about whether someone should or shouldn't....:goodvibes

you will also get zero percent interest for 6 months on the visa if you charge your trip there.

related question if you purchase disney gift cards at a disney store or disney online and use your disney visa if you spend more than $50 can you use the 10% off a purchase of $50 or more perk you get with the card?

Yep. IMHO, this is the best option.

But if you still want to purchase the Disney gift cards, do you have a Giant Eagle or another grocery store that offers incentives for purchasing gift cards? The Giant Eagles in my area offer $0.20 cents off per gallon of gas with each $50 purchased. I picked up some Disney giftcards there before my last trip for spending money and saved some money on gas.

Totally agree. There are only three instances when I would buy gift cards instead of just paying on the trip with my credit card. The first would be if there is no trip booked and I felt that I would not be diciplined enough to just save the money on my own. The second would be if a store was offering some sort of incentive for buying gift cards (like $$ off my next order). And the last reason would be if disney visa was offering bonus points for purchases in select categories and one of those categories was a merchant that sells disney gift cards.

Otherwise I would want to have the money back on my credit card if I had to cancel. You need to hold onto those used gift cards until after your vacation is over because disney will refund to the original source. If you tossed the cards then you lose your money!!!! (or at least make it even more difficult to get it back). Plus disney will still have your money. It will just be on a gift card. I would much rather have it in my bank account. :)
