We are headed down next week. have room only offer at CSR. $1,200 due at check in.

We have toyed with DVC for years and think we are ready.

Instead of checking in at CSR. I was going to go to the DVC office and make a deal. Will they let use my $1,200 i owe to CSR to be added to my cash for a down payment. Then let me just use my new points at the DVC? skipping the stay at CSR?

Or some kind of incentive to get me to sign on the line?

They may have had this kind of offer years ago but right now the only Florida DVC in active sales is VGF and there are no deals/offers/incentives right now( I bought 50 points last week) also note that dvc rooms are subject to availability and right now there is very little available in the next few weeks since it's an in demand time of year on short notice.

Have you looked into resale at all instead?

Looks like you have stayed at several WDW resorts but not in a DVC room. I would take advantage of renting from a DVC owner and find out which DVC resort is your favorite before buying resale.

They have never done what you contemplate. In the 90's, DVD had an incentive which allowed those who purchased while at WDW to apply their room cost to the purchase price and thus get that amount as a discount, but that did not allow you to change to a DVC room while there and that incentive has been long gone.

As a practicable matter, DVD really would not do what you contemplate. By Florida law, a new purchaser has a right to rescind any timeshare purchase within 10 days after purchase and the seller is required to return all amounts paid if the buyer rescinds. Moreover, the seller cannot enter into any agreement that waives in any way that right or puts a charge on its exercise and thus DVD could not even get you to agree to pay for the time spent at the DVC resort if you decided to rescind. As a result, DVD is not going to allow you to stay at a DVC resort after a sale until at the least the 10 day period has passed.

My suggestion is you enjoy your trip and get as much info about the resorts as you can while there. If you haven't toured, do that but don't buy then. Once you get home start investigating both the nuts and bolts and the retail vs resale options. Essentially what you'll find is that most resorts can be bought for around half resale. You'll give up the cruise and other trade options which will always cost you more in the long run (and in almost all specific examples) than had you simply bought less points and paid cash. Plus they are not guaranteed. The only situations where it's truly reasonable to buy retail are if you're set on VGF and paying almost triple is worth it to you and you'll stay the majority of your trips there.

I am one of those who had part of my monies paid while staying at DL-AB applied to my DVC purchase. This was back in '93.
I did put into my contract back then that I would get a reservation within the cancelation period, cause of issues I had with a previous timeshare. I agreed that if I canceled my purchase I would pay for the nights in the room.

IIRC, most who did this also lost points as the trade off for using the hotel costs paid as part of the purchase payment.

we first took the tour back in 1994 at OKW when my wife and I were engadged.

Also did it again after we were married in 2000 at BC and again in 2008 at SSR.

I have done all the math, crunched the numbers many times over the years. We just were not ready as a family to commit to it financially. Didn't want to be vacation poor.

Long story short. We are ready now.

I have decided to go direct vs resale for many reasons. Bu thats another story.

Thans for the info folks.

If you don't mind, I'd love to hear the reasons you chose to go direct.
