UPDATE: We went up to the fort on Friday. We spoke to the front desk and they claimed that the sites continued to be booked with no cancellations. The temperature DROPPED... We took a stroll through the settlement and the trading post but it was miserable. Now, we are from Miami this cold was not fun. Friday night we could not sleep. We had two heaters running in the camper and tons of blankets. Saturday night I woke up and called to see if anyone had cancelled... no luck. It was still cold. We went to have breakfast and rode around the loops. We called again.. nope. We ended up being so miserable that we packed up and left. We visit the fort often, and it was just too cold. Maybe we will go back in April.
Now we made some friends and they called us not too long ago saying that alot of the sites were empty...![]()
Sorry to hear about your experience. We are from South FL as well and we stayed at the Fort that same weekend but in the cabins. I'm guessing they were sold out as well??

And, yes it was QUITE a chilly few nights there and I was feeling bad for those tent campers as well...but I guess that's part of the camping experience if you're somewhat used to the cold. Being a transplant/semi-south floridian native I felt bad for them and I'm sorryyou had to drive all the way up there only to have to turn around and head back:-( If I would have seen your post while we were there I would have invited you all into our cabin.
