Will DCL take your suitcases to the airport if using DCL buses?

I was wondering if you are taking DCL buses to the airport after your cruise will they take your bags to your airline for you? Somebody told me you can check your bag while on the ship and they will take it to your airline for you and you don't have to worry about it until you get home. Is this true? I know how it works when going to WDW. We had to switch our flight today to a much later one since the one we had got switch to way too early one. Just wondering if we will have to take our bags to the airport and have them all day with us.

If you are on a participating airline, domestic flight, with a flight time after the recommended time, you can do the onboard check in. You leave your checked bags outside your room the last night, and the next time you see them is at your home airport.
ONBOARD AIRLINE CHECKIN
From Port Canaveral: (from cruise documents 8/9/2014)
The requirements are below

    • You must have purchased DCL Air and/or DCL Ground Transfers
    • Your flight has to leave from Orlando International Airport after 11:30 am on the same day your cruise vacation ends.
    • Your flight must be on a participating airline:
AirTran Airways (no longer in business)
Alaska Airlines
American Airlines (USAirways merged)
Delta Air Lines
JetBlue Airways
United Airlines

· Your final destination must be within the U.S. (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands)
· Each luggage piece can weigh no more than fifty (50) pounds.
· Airline specific baggage fees may apply and can vary by airline. Please check with your specific carrier for more details.
· Applicable airline baggage fees will be posted directly to your shipboard account.
· Some Guests may be selected to check in at the airport and may not be able to use this service.

Great thanks! We have all three things and have prepaid for our checked bags with jetblue. I am so happy we can do this.

I can't speak to any airline other than Southwest, but SW will not let you check your bags in more than four hours before your flight. So if your flight is pretty late, it's worth paying $5 for one of those SmartCarte luggage carts. I believe the machines even take credit cards!

If you are using the Onboard Airline Check in (as OP appears to be asking about), you only need to have your flight flying out the same day as debarkation, and they will take the bags to the airport, and get them to your plane. Regardless of how long before your flight they actually get to the airport.

What happens on the return trip to the airport if you are flying a non-participating airline? Do you pick your bags up, go through customs and then take them to the DCL bus? Do they then load them on the DCL bus or are they loaded on one of those panel trucks that ME uses?

Yep!

You pick your bags up, go through customs, and hand them to your driver.

Back up. For us, assuming we have the cash available, we get off the escalator, find a porter, and have the porter get our bags, go through customs with us, and take them to our bus driver.

Bus driver puts them under the bus, you get onboard, and at the airport you retrieve the bags from the driver and then go check them at the counter (or if there's an outside checkin counter for your airline with skycaps (?) that's good too).
