I had been wondering about that too.... my guess is with so many promo's going on during late summer early fall (bounce back, 40% codes, P&P party) that there will be no need for disney to offer free dining this year. I hope Disney proves me wrong!!

I'm HOPING that Disney is trying new things in lieu of free dining, but since the bounce-back/UK free dining didn't fill the resorts, and the 40% didn't fill the resorts, now the partys won't fill the resorts, and Disney will "resort" to free dining once again, even if on a smaller scale. Of course, all of us on the DIS will scoop up the rooms, since we will be the first to know, and we will all be happy! I'm looking forward to the Princess/Pirate party on Aug 21st!

I don't think it won't since they are actually making us spend more money to go to this event.

PP&P adult ticket = roughly the same for a day on DDP.
PP&P child ticket = almost 3 days on DDP.

I am estimating $39.00 per adult and $29.00 per child since the prices haven't been published yet.

Time will tell.

If they offer free dining, I would be willing to pay for the P&PP....

Last year, we went to MNSSHP and we were on the free DDP. Had we not been lucky enough to get the free food, we would have skipped the MNSSHP.

If on the other hand, I have to pay for my dining, I may be too broke to indulge in other fun things like Bibbidy bobbidy boutique, P&PP, more souvenirs, photopass CD etc.

I think, the P&PP may have a better success rate IF they DO offer the free dining.

Anyone else agree?

What is the Pirate/Princess? I'm going in August and I don't have any info on this special? If this is like the Hollween party, why would it affect free dining. We went last year in Sept and there was free dining and the hollween special. Thanks.

They have Night of Joy in September and so far they still have offered the free ddp in 2005 and 2006. Also the free ddp has extended into October and they have the MNSSHP and F&W, so don't really see any affect.

we went to this event in feb
the park closed at 7pm with the event officially starting at 730
you could enter the park at 4pm wiht your p&pp ticket
it was cute the lights everywhere were great
and the shows in the different lands were really good
i would go again for the kids

Thanks for the info. I don't think we will be going to it so I'm trying to plan what days to avoid the MK. We usually try to avoid extra magic hour days also so this kind of throws a wrench in our plans. Thanks again!

That is exactly what I thought! With free dining, I would purchase the tickets for P&PP. We did free dining last year, and while our family made out in the food department, Disney made out everywhere else all of the extras that we splurged for because my food budget was covered.

Without free dining, I wait a year, no P&PP tickets , no extras in spending.

I am hoping for free dining!

During slow periods, Disney has to bring up revenue, and there are only a few way to do that - bring more people to the resort, and figure out how to get more money out of them.
By instituting free dining, they know that you're still going to buy booze, spend your cash more freely and end up having meals you have to pay for in cash anyway. So they got you in.
Step two, they need to get even more money out of your wallet. How do they do that? A $40 per person party, with its own line of merchandise, during hours that you would normally have been in the park in the first place - and during which the park would already be open (for teh most part).
Don't get me wrong, I don't think less of Disney because of this - they're just being shrewd businesspeople, and I appreciate the trip being not only less expensive up front, but the cool party as well.
But let me be clear - the party doesn't negate the possibility of the free dining - in fact it improves the odds for it. The more people who come out for the free dining, the more party tickets they sell. And don't forget, though the party may be special to you and me (I'm going 8/28), it's just another day working at the Happiest Place On Earth for the CMs, and no greater expense for WDW. It is a real money maker for them, but only if there are people there to enjoy it.
