Will a moderate preferred room get you closer to the main building?

I very much like being near the "hub" of things at a resort. I'm choosing a moderate now for upcoming trip. Will booking a preferred room get you near the main building? What is considered preferred?

Sometimes you will get a "perferred room" that is closer to the "hub" of things but alot of times, you get a waterview or such.
At the POR, I think that it is a toss up. Cannot remember where the perferred rooms are. At the Calypso, All Star Music, we were in perferred, and were a short walk to everything. At the POFQ, there are no bad rooms but the perferred are down by the river. Again it is a short walk but in my opinion, it is not worth the extra money because the resort is so compact.
Now, I have only stayed at the CBR once and truthfully, I don't know if they even HAVE perferred. It is so spread out that you have a long walk no matter where you stay, I think. I have never stayed at the Coronado so cannot say anything about that. There are many people here that can certianly tell you about all the resorts.

The POR, POFQ and the CSR do not have the option of booking a preferred building. You can book a waterview room but this may not get your closer to the main building.
Of the moderates, the only resort is the CBR and those buildings are: Martinique it will be buildings 24, 25, 26. In Trinidad North it will be 31,32,33, these buildings are closer to Old Port Royale where the food court, Shutters and the gift shop are located.
There is an extra charge of $15 per night
The value resorts all have preferred building locations, I think the extra cost is $10 per night. In the Allstar Music the preferred buildings the 2 Calypso buildings.
In the Allstar Movies the buildings are Toy Story, Fantasia and 101 Dalmations.
In the Allstar Sports I believe the buildings are the 2 Surfs Up buildings
The POP Century has a couple of building locations, but I am not sure which one,

Yes, it did for us in 05 when we stayed at CBR, we were closer to the main building and to a bus station.

My "waterview" room at CSR in Dec. was a room as far away from the main building as possible, overlooking a quiet pool. But I'm sure there are also water view rooms overlooking the lake right by the main building. It is not a guarantee.
