We have lunch reservations at Whispering Canyon and then will be heading from there back to our room at the Polynesian for our son to have his nap. Is there a boat that runs between the two, or do we have to go back to MK or the Contemporary to pick up the monorail (or a bus or boat from MK) to the Polynesian? I'm a little rusty on my Disney... And it has only been a couple of years!

From Whispering Canyon, you need to either take a boat or bus to Magic Kingdom, then switch to monorail or another boat

OR take a boat to the Contemporary, then switch to monorail.

Bus routes from WL may make stops to pick up at the Poly, which would provide you with what you need. The problem with this is that it isn't predictable, and might not happen at all at the time you want it.

Since you're talking abut a mid-day trip, that's when bus routes are most likely to be combined. And since the bus stop isn't far from where you would catch a taxi, it might be reasonable to go to the bus stop, check with a couple of buses to DtD or the theme parks, and if they aren't combining the routes, head over to the Porte Cochere to snag a taxi.

We did this exact route to go to 'Ohana for dinner last January!

We caught the MK bus from WL - a very quick 5 minute ride! Then we walked over to the Monorail platform and rode the resort line to the Poly! It was a very nice relaxing ride! The whole thing probably took less than a half an hour! If you really don't want to use that time or don't mind spending the extra money it would be about a 5 minute cab ride worth about 10-15 bucks! :goodvibes

To avoid the magic kingdom and for consistency with the number of boats available, I would hop on the blue launch, which will take you from the WL-->FW-->contemporary, then go hop on the monorail from the contemporary to the Poly. Basically my rule is always avoid MK as much as possible.
