Wilderness lodge or tree house

Planning a trip during president's week 2011.....I know....crazy busy! Would it be smarter to spend less points and try to book a tree house, or spend more points but book my home at Wilderness Lodge. I just don't know if things get books so quickly that if I wait to make reservations at the tree house and be able to have the kids in their own room, or book sooner at my DVC home and have a reservation for sure. What do you think?

Book at your home resort now and then at 7 months look to change to the other. If not available wait list for it. That way you are covered.

I agree with Jim, book your home resort when your 11 month window opens. Since you are going during a holiday period, don't wait to book your home resort.

I just booked a studio at OKW our home resort for the week before President's weekend. I am going to try to change to AKV value or standard when the 7 month mark comes around. I am trying to save points. I love OKW but I hate to have two beds and no couch. This trip is DH and I and we plan on just relaxing and maybe not even doing any parks.

I booked a studio at VWL for that week but want to change to a 1 BR. I am gonna call today as I know that is a very busy week. Hopefully this far out it won't be a problem.

Hi there! We are SSR members. We were just there in February. As this was the first trip for us with the Treehouses open, one thing that struck me about the tree houses is that it appeared to me the transportation runs through SSR. The Treehouse guests take a bus from there to SSR for the transportation hub. Maybe this is not a big deal for you. My children (12, 9 and 6) thought this would really increase the time spent waiting for buses. I guess it depends how old your kids are and if that is a concern. My family takes the transportation time into consideration when booking. We LOVE Wilderness lodge. We stayed there on Club level 4 times before becoming DVC members. I do agree to book your home resort to have a secure spot and then change if available for the Treehouses. Whatever you choose it will be wonderful! Have a great time!
