Wife didn't fare well on MS--will she handle Soarin?

My wife doesn't tolerate spinning--or the sensation of spinning--well as evidenced by her rather sickening experience on MS. She would like to go on Soarin, but will that also leave her reaching for the V bag or is Soarin pretty tame as it relates to uncomfortable movements?

I personally didn't agree with MS and on Soarin I did just fine. I am also afraid of heights as is my boyfriend and neither of us had a problem. We do recommend if you sit on the edge of the row that you don't look down as you see the ride mechanism and realize you are off the ground. I really enjoyed the ride!

I personally would not ever go on MS, however Soarin' is a not to be missed. My husband has a bit a of trouble with rides like Star Tours, but he loved Soarin' and had no troubles at all. I personally think it is a very gentle ride, there is some feeling of floating/flying, which if you are very motion sickness sensitive might affect you, but it isn't jerky. You can be quiet high up (depending on which row you are in) which would be where the vertigo warning comes in, but my DH didn't even notice he was as high up as he was. My DS4 thought it was wonderful too.

I tried Soarin' in California last year. Before the ride I was a bit apprehensive since I too have problems with motion sickness. I'm happy to report that I truly enjoed the ride. It is really a not to be missed attraction

Soarin doesn't spin at all. The sensation is similar to Star Tours but much much gentler. Picture being on a ferris wheel and just rocking back and forth.

The movement feels like being on an open ferris wheel at the top with the wind blowing in your face.

I went on Soarin last time to Disney and had no problems at all, it's a fabulous ride! I didnt fare too well on Star Tours and have motion sickness problems but had none of those issues on Soarin. Don't miss it!

NO problems at all!

My dad doesnt ride ANYTHING!

However he LOVED Soarin!

Basically the thing you sit on BARELY moves at all, and if so, it's so gently you dont even know it. Basically the screen does all of the work. It's easy and NOTHING to it whatsoever.

it's DEFINTAELY not labled a THRILL RIDE.

I am not a fan of MS. I have ridden it twice and while I did not get physically ill I did not "feel" right after riding and will not ride again. I rode Sorin' for the first time during our most recent June trip and it was truely a great experiance and cannot wait to ride again. A very smooth ride.

I tried SoC as well, about a couple years ago. No probs, great ride. I will be out there in Aug to try MS for the firs time. I hear it ain't exactly easy ridin' :rotfl2:

I'm very prone to motion sickness. I also have an inner ear problem and have experienced vertigo (dizziness with a spinning sensation) a few times which left me with minor balance problems. So I cannot handle any ride that spins or jerks too much or goes upside down. However, thanks to some early reviews from folks on these boards, I tried Soarin' back in early May and I loved it!

First of all, Soarin' doesn't spin at all. You experience a sensation of soaring, not spinning, over California. It is wonderful! I was fine the whole time except for one 3-second segment featuring a very sharp banked turn over an aircraft carrier. I just closed my eyes for a few seconds and when I opened them again, I was fine. There is a wonderful breeze blowing in your face the whole time which really helps keep any problem with motion sickness at bay.

I was surprised to discover I do have a slight fear of heights, but kept that under control by just reminding myself I'm watching a movie, I'm not really soaring over a mountain peak and I'm tightly belted into my seat.

So, I feel confident in saying that if I can handle this ride, just about anybody with motion issues can handle it!

We had a terrible experience on MS - we were wrecked for quite a while after riding it. But Soarin is another story - IMHO its the best ride. I think your wife will be fine - there is no spinning, it is high but not so that you really feel it. Good Luck

I got a little dizzy on Soarin' a few times, but I just closed by eyes and then I was fine. It's very gentle.

What park is Soaring in... I'd love to ride it ...Is it fairly new ??? Thanks

Soarin' is like being gently rocked in a hammock-- only you're sitting up.

Epcot, over by the Land. Where Food Rocks used to be.

I am hoping to do Soarin next trip and am prone to motion sickness (occassionally have trouble on TT and the like). I read a tip here that has helped me on rides and the airplane. I carry the small packets of rubbing alchol pads. (keeping in my pocket on a possible rough ride.). If you start to feel at all like sickness is coming on, rip open the packet and take a few deep breaths. The nauseua goes away almost instantly!

Soarin' is in Epcot and I believe it opened in May to coincide with this Anniversary year for Disneyland. It is a wonderful ride that appeals to all your senses and I don't think anyone can come off of this ride and not think..."WOW!"

If you are afraid of heights, try to get in the third row. We were in the first row, and I peeked. It looked like we were higher.

Soarin is awesome. I have recommended it to everyone that I have talked to since I got back. It is a very smooth ride that is a sensory overload. It was amazing. I wish I could head back there right now to do it again. Get there early as the line is long and FP goes very quick. It is one of the best attractions that I have ever seen. I loved it and so did everyone that I talked with when the ride was over. I don't want to build it up to big but it was amazing for us. Go and do it. In my opinion, you will not be disappointed.
