Hi all,

Has anyone here successfully (or unsuccessfully!) tried to get some of the $25 lottery seats for Wicked? Is there a huge mob trying to get these seats? Any other helpful info?

Thanks!

I though this thread was about Fenway Green Monster seats:p

Me too.

But I know what Wicked (the play) is and I wish you luck in getting seats. I hear it's excellent!

Lisa,

I know several people that have tried (and most failed)...I know the full price is kinda steep, but if you don't get decent seats you aren't gonna be able to see everything in the big ol' Gershwin anyway...My suggestion would be to just give in and buy the full price tickets.

However you manage it, good luck getting tickets....The show is incredible, but make sure you see it before Kristin heads for not-quite-as-green pastures :)

I've tried twice - unsuccessfully. A lot of people turn up for those 28 seats....

I broke down and anti-ed up - we're going on July 3 :)

You never know - you could get lucky! Good luck if you try!

Thanks for the responses! I really wanted to see Wicked tomorrow since it's my 30th birthday. We JUST moved back to NY a few weeks ago and just started thinking about this, so there were no tickets available. I figured one of us would go stand in line at TKTS and the other would try the lottery and we'd be flexible and see what happens.

In the mean time, I have been checking ticketmaster daily to see if any tickets open up and some did in the 2nd row, center orchestra. Woohoo! Of course I snagged them, so we are getting to see it (albeit at 4x the price). I'm really psyched though!

I won the "Wicked" lotto back in April. Well, actually, my friend Jen won the "Wicked" lotto for us. We won the last pair of seats. It sure was great :)

Just an FYI to answer your question, the day we went it was a Saturday afternoon, and I would guess there were at least 200 people there. It was crazy!

What is this lottery and how do you enter?

Here is a cut and paste from Wicked's website:

A day-of-performance lottery for $25 front-row seats will be held daily for WICKED at Broadway's Gershwin Theatre (222 W. 51st St.).

Each day, 2½ hours prior to show time (11:30 AM for 2 PM matinees; 12:30 PM for 3 PM matinees; 4:30 PM for 7 PM performances; 5:30 PM for 8 PM performances), people who present themselves at the Gershwin Theatre box office will have their names placed in a hat. 30 minutes later, names will be drawn for 28 front-row seats at $25 each. This lottery is available only in-person at the box office, with a limit of two tickets per person, cash only. Photo-ID required.

I've heard that as many as 500 people show up for these seats! I'm glad I got my tickets the way I did though, the way today went I'm sure luck wouldn't be with me tomorrow, birthday or no!

Is/Are Wicked a group?

Wicked is a musical on broadway. It's the prequel to the Wizard of Oz and it's wonderful. We saw it back in January.
FYI: Kristin's last performance is July 18th.

Wicked the Musical is a link to the website with a synopsis. I'm not sure if it's the hottest thing on Broadway right now but if not, it's close.

I read that Kristin was leaving. Also tomorrow is the Idina's last performance before going on vacation for a few weeks!

Have a great time, Lisa! Idina Menzel is fantastic in the show! I've seen her in Rent and the Wild Party several times each, and I was never overly impressed by her, but absolutely loved her in Wicked! The closing number in Act II (Defying Gravity) is amazing.

Norbert Leo Butz is fantastic as Fieyro as well. He really works well with all of Kristen Chenowith and Idina.

Oh, and there is a really rude and nasty bathroom attendant in one of the ladies rooms at the theatre. She was scary.

Have a blast! Don't forget to come back and tell us what you thought of the show.

Oh, and Happy 30th Birthday, Lisa!

Karen
