Why would Toys R Us do this???? Update post 22

They advertised two items in the Big Red Toy book that are discontinued. I called them and they said they printed the book months ago before they knew. Well my son will be very upset on Christmas because it's the one thing he wants most.

I also called and emailed Mega Bloks - waiting for a response.

If anyone sees these at a Toys R us please let me know.

Sorry forgot to add it's a Toys R Us Exclusive - no else carries them. That's why I'm mad. I could understand if they just ran out but to only carry it one place then discontinue it right before Christmas just burns me up!!!

Ok - I saw it on ebay. It's $46.99 plus Shipping is $15. The store had it for $29. Ebay is annoying too. That's double the cost and it's the other one that he really wants

Did you try calling all the toys r us that are around you, maybe one of the stores will have it.

I did this one year looking for a toy only carried by Kay B Toys, I called every store even if it was an hour away.

That was the total price wasn't it? It had a Buy it Now price of $47.99..And shipping was $10.15..every little bit helps..

Shipping was over $13. Really a couple dollars doesn't bother me it's paying double of what the store wanted that bothers me.

Mega Bloks emailed me and said it's not discontinued and they have tons all over the US. What does she want me to fly somewhere to get a $29.99 toy?

Having worked for Toys R Us for 8 years through HS and College...I can Explain a little.

#1 the flyers are planned and printed about 32-3months prior to you seeing them. We in teh store didn't get to see them until about a week to 2 weeks prior to release, but they did have them ready far in advance.

#2 The big toy book came out back at the start of NOV!!!! if you want somethign from this book you need to try to get it that weekend or your probably going to be out of luck discontinued or not.

#3 exclusives are a sticky situation...they usually make only a select amount and then they are done. You never know how well something will sell and if you make to many you get stuck. You son just ahppened to choose the popular exclusive!

As for finding it.....can't really help you other then e-bay....do you only have one toys in your area??? if you have one withing driving distance further away call them and try.

Also ask them to look up in the computer if their are any one order((a manager will probably have to do this as most seasonal employess won'thave a clue where to look))This will tell you for sure if they are discontinued completely or just out of stock. They also should be able to check stock of other stores.

last note if they are on order....Toys will get shipments DAILY right until Christmas EVE,,,so keep checking!

Thanks for all that info. I do understand better now. I have been calling stores in my area all day no luck. I either have to bite the bullet and do ebay or find something else and hope he's happy.

I was really annoyed at Mega Bloks they told me there are tons all over the USA- I guess just not in Pennsylvania. They also said they were not discontinued- OK TRU just doesn't carry them then.

And anyone wonders why their business is doing so terrible! I think it is the worst run company around. I don't care if the book is made a year ahead the toys are ordered a year ahead also. Don't put things in you don't know will be available-it's not rocket science. I think it is terrible what they do to kids now, they have really made them into instant gratification machines because if you don't get it right now they won't have it next month for your birthday. The fact that the employee is so calm and matter a fact about it also says volumes. The other thing they do is make things exclusive and advertise like crazy and then not make enough so the scalpers from Ebay buy them up and the kids see them in the toy book and then try to get one. Something my son saw was 12.99 in the cat and store and now to get it you have to pay $50. dollars on Ebay.
Luckily he is a little older and it isn't his first wish so he understands but I really feel for the folks with younger kids.
