Why would a mother in law invite her sons ex to her party?

I'm the camp who can't believe current wife of 30 years is even worried about this.

I can also understand inviting the ex wife. I have an ex sister in law that will always be my sister in law and they have been divorced for over 20 yrs. She has always been right there for our family. When my mother was dying from cancer she was there almost everyday. And no my parents did not have money so that was not the reason.
My brother has been remarried for quite a few yrs now and has a wonderful wife. In fact the ex wife and now wife get along great. And his wife has been a great step mother to the children when they were little and now that they are grown.

The ex girlfriend ... i do not understand that one.

I don't think the wife is worried. I think she finds it strange. I would too. If the woman has no relationship with these people (the exes) I would find it even more odd.
