Why Why Why all the acronyms???

Perhaps I'm slow but I keep tripping over all the acronyms!

And I can't help thinking how much time is really truly lost typing out "husband" as opposed "DH" or "POR" vs whatever the heck POR means. Arggggg...enough!!!

I feel your pain...I tried to memorize, I tried looking up whenever got stumped....I have resorted to just glossing over them unless I really want to know!!!

Oh well. I can figure out a good portion.

You are correct. I look at it as a challenge! When I first start dissing - it was very frustrating, then I would feel so smart when I could figure some out on my own. There are still some that stump me though

Here is some practice:

My DH and I are going to ASM then to BWV with DD8, DD6, DS3.
We have ADR's at APK, CM, WCC, SF, and going to DTD.
I'm on WPASADI TPAS Team #1

Some terms like DH or DD are common on all chat sites not just Disboards. Like others have said - you'll skip over some and then all of a sudden realize you know what the heck people are talking about lol.

And usually when I see something like this...I just gloss over it. Not that I can't flip between screens to figure it out....because I can - very quickly. I just don't.

For me, I *think* in acronyms now. In my brain, I'm not thinking "I'm staying at Port Orleans Riverside and then going to Animal Kingdom in the morning," I think "I'm staying at POR and then going to DAK in the morning."

I type the way I think, so that's what comes out!

Think of it in terms of something you're very familiar with- would you call up a friend and say "You should watch Who Wants to Be A Millionaire on the American Broadcasting Channel tonight at Seven o'clock Post Meridian.", you would say "You should watch Millionaire on ABC at 7pm".

Alright, I usually consider myself to be abbreviation savvy, but must say that I'm a little tripped up by a few of yours (and I can't seem to find them on the abbreviation list, either!)! I believe that SF= Sci-Fi, but what in the heck is APK and WPASADI?? I'm sure that once you tell me I'll be like, duh!

WPASADI = Wickedly Perfect Awesome Survivor Apprentice DIS Idol. Its the big contest for prizes in the works right now.

Surely you expect that we type that out everytime.

APK = is a typo of the Akersus Princess Lunch. K was mistakenly hit instead of the L key on the keyboard. Happens alot. Soon you'll even word associate and understand misspellings

The key to comprehension is the context or topic of the thread, and tons of reading. Your mind will pick it up, just like you pick up ABC or 9/11 or SBC.
Like other posters said, you start to think and talk in acronyms. Sign of a true DISer!

I can vouch for that one ! At first the abbreviations were a little hard, but after awhile, I picked up on them. Next thing I knew, I was using them when we were down in Disney last month. My DH actually asked if I can use the "real" name and stop using the abbreviations . But lo and behold, he started using them as well
