Why were the 2000s and early 2010s more socially conformist?

I remember the 2010-2015 time period as a much more optimistic time period than now but more vapid and conformist.

Before 2014 that society thought that people who watched fantasy themed shows and "Battlestar Galactica" were seen as "People who lived in basements" but since "Game of Thrones" and the MCU blew up the stigma seemed to be erased virtually overnight.

TV dumbed down greatly. The History and Discovery channels replaced science themed programming with "redneck" themed fare.

Instead of a brand new shiny "Space Opera" the so called "Syfy" channel switched to sharks in tornadoes, wrestling, and ghost hunting.

The best looking people seemed discouraged from developing their intellect.

What do you make of that time period?

We were going through a recession from 2007-2012-ish, so you must be remembering something different

Recollections may vary. 😉
