We're sushi lovers (yes, even the 5 and 2-year old), but there is so little "buzz" here about Tokyo Dining. Is the sushi not good? I'mm thinking the menu would not be heavy/hot, and would make it for a good lunch option on a hot September day.

Also, I would like to hear from anyone on the deluxe dining plan who has eaten here - especially for lunch - and what you were able to get.

We'll see if I get any responses, as it seems pretty unpopular. :confused3

You know, I was thinking the exact same thing!! I was considering it as well as I adore sushi, and there are plenty of other options besides.

Only thing I can figure is that since Teppan Edo is in the same pavilion, people go for the Teppan chefs because of the entertainment factor and Tokyo Dining gets forgotton about? Just my thought.

I have personally not eaten at either, but we are trying Teppan Edo this Sept. Yeah, I went with the entertainment factor for the kids. But, I have a hunch that Tokyo dining is probably very good (and would be less of a wait).

I am thinking there is no "buzz" because most Disney guests prefer less "ethnic" type food. Teppan Edo is basically grilled meat and vegetables, sauce optional, nothing truly exotic there. Plus, there's a show. Many may also view it primarily as a sushi place and there are a lot of Americans who won't touch sushi.

If you're after the sushi, the separate a la carte sushi menu is not available on the dining plan, but you can order any platter or entree which includes sushi.

We ate dinner there a few months ago and enjoyed it. We had sushi and sashimi. It was very fresh and good. And, our waiter was very nice. It was very crowded.

We did a 'walk in' (no res/ADR) for lunch back in February and it was lovely and would eat at Tokyo Dining again. We have 5 yr old. :thumbsup2

I love this place. Cna't speak to the dining plan, but the sushi has always been fresh. Love the dynamite roll, nice textures :thumbsup2

It appears that they do not take the DDP which is why we have never gone. We love sushi so next time we go without the DDP we'll try it.

They sure do! They do have some limitations on what you can order with it, but I do know when we went we were offered a few different sushi options to order as our entree.:thumbsup2

Never used a dining plan; but we've had lunch here once a trip since it opened. Usually either sushi or the bento box type lunches. Food is great and service is outstanding!

I've been there before and really enjoyed it! I am surprised that more people dont post about it! I am actually looking forward to a little meal to myself since DH doesnt like it!

I've used both the basic and DxDDP there and have gotten both the Bento Box and the Ginza Gozen. The individual sushi items are listed on a different part of the menu and are not available with the DDPs. For appetizers I've only ordered the shrimp cocktail and for dessert the green tea ice cream. Service and food have always been great.

They DO take DDP. You just cannot order from the separate a la carte sushi menu (offering sushi by the piece) and have it covered by DDP.

We did a walk-in for dinner there in January and I'm so glad we did. The waiting area was packed and there was a long line at the check-in desk so we didn't think we had a shot, but it turns out the crowds were for Teppan Edo and they walked us immediately to a table on the Tokyo Dining side. It was our first time there.

We had a variety of sushi rolls and split an order of the tempura scallops. Everything was so good and our waitress was great. Very friendly and very interested to hear we are sushi fans -- she asked if it is common where we are and she was surprised when we said yes, there are tons of sushi restaurants near us.

Great overall experience and I'd definitely go back. We weren't on the ddp so I can't speak to that aspect.

There really isn't much to report. I found it to be an extremely limited and very Americanized menu. It was quite expensive, but wasn't particularly good, although I wouldn't exactly call it bad. I had the bento box, which seemed the most Japanese thing on the dinner menu. For something over $20, I got a bowl of rice, a few slivers of tasteless grilled beef, three small rectangles of excellent tuna sashimi, a spoonful or so of seaweed salad, and "tempura" vegetables: shredded vegetables fried in dough into a sort of pancake--more like okonomiyaki than anything tempura.

The sushi was quite good, but also seemed very limited. I would not go back, much preferring California Grill for sushi.

I went here in December using the DxDP & loved it!

I've been going to Tokyo Dining for many years (in its old form too before the big remodel) & have yet to have a bad meal.

Thanks to all! It sounds like Tokyo Dining would be a nice place to stop for lunch. :thumbsup2 Now, I just need to decide Tutto or Tokyo? Hmmm, am I going to be in the mood for sushi or pasta in 6 months ? :lmao:
