I know that the Princesses are a huge deal and make Disney a lot of money, but my son asked today why there is an Anna and Elsa meet for the girls but no meet with Olaf, Kristoff and/or Sven for the boys. I don't have a good answer.

He's 8 and generally not into the character meets all that much, but then most of the characters are either princesses or aimed at pre-schoolers. Disney finally managed a movie boys and girls love and are forgetting about the boys, again.

Great point.

When I watched the first movie trailer for Frozen (not knowing anything about the movie) it was all about Olaf! And it was hilarious. The princesses didn't even appear. When the movie finally came out it was completely different from what I was expecting. But I know my son would love to meet Olaf.

I had no idea that the Anna/Elsa meet was for girls. I'll make sure and let my son know. ;)

Really, though, Anna and Elsa are the two main characters of the movie. I don't know why Disney didn't choose to use more Frozen characters, but I guess it would have been a good idea. My daughter would be over the moon to meet Olaf. :rolleyes1

You answered your own question. Boys just don't seem as in to meeting characters as girls. Just a generalization I know there are boys who like to meet characters. Girls go all in with dress up and all that. My daughter had the best birthday dressed as Cinderella. Don't think my son would get the same feeling dressed as prince charming

I think it depends on the age of the boy. My son is 4 and he still loves it. I imagine one they're 8 or 9 it loses its luster.

my girls would love to meet them all! except maybe Hans..

I love the idea of a Frozen meal... i know it won't ever happen, but how much fun would that be to meet all the main characters in Akershus?

The best day my boys had was pirates league and pirates tutorial. They loved getting dressed up and meeting a male character more then Mickey, goofy... they were 4 and 7 1/2. They also loved Jedi training because they are dressed and a part if it. Pirates night on cruise, get dressed up, great fun at 5 and 8 still. I'm sure if the male characters were there, interest would not be lacking.

WOW!!!!! That's a real good idea. Shoot- I would like to meet Hans too. Gaston got his own tavern and nobody seems to mind.

My 3yo DD would FLIP if she could meet Hans. I'm afraid we'll have our hands full in a few years - she always has a thing for the "bad boys". She's always loved Sid from TS too...

Disney's done a good job of turning their villains into funny characters for meet & greets; Gaston is the best character experience in The World now, and the step sisters aren't far behind him.

I think Hans would be tougher then those characters, though, because they have comical elements to start with that I don't think Hans has.

Hmmmm- I tend to disagree with this....but not all the way. You make some very valid points here. I don't know how the public really looks at Hans. I mean- appearance wise, Hans is non threatening. When Hans first met Anna he was very sweet and charming. Then- they started to get to know each other....they sing to each other. Later on- Hans assumes the role of leadership and takes good care of the Kingdom- giving the townsfolk food and blankets to keep warm. I don't recall Hans ever treating anyone mean like Gaston did. Gaston's whole demeanor was cruel right from the onset. Now- I am not entirely sure if Hans turned callous after he met Anna or before. I believe he only wanted to marry into the throne from the beginning....but that's not uncommon for royal offspring. Did Hans go in wanting to kill Elsa and Anna from the beginning.....or did he just take advantage of an opportunity that presented itself?????? :confused3 I still wouldn't mind meeting him though.

As the father of 2 boys, I agree with the general premise. WDW has always had a focus on very young children and girls. Boys at age 4 would not really care about boy/girl distinctions, but by the time they reach age 8 or 9 they want to see and do "boy" things. WDW loses boys at a much earlier age than girls. My teen boys are tired of WDW, and mostly because they are just not the target audience.

I don't have a problem with it (Disney has to make choices) - but it is very true.

I dunno if kids are going to analyze his intent as much as just identify him as a bad guy. But as cruel as Gaston was, his over the top ego, naivety and self absorption was comical (the way they presented him in his musical number) and they've leveraged those traits into a great meet & greet.

Then again, they have a successful character in Lady Tremaine, who I thought offered nothing fun. This past trip the one I saw at 1900 Park Fare was the first one I've met that was interesting; she played up her ego & vanity well enough to be enjoyable. The ones I saw before were just creepy.

Why can't the boys meet Anna and Elsa?

I think it's more so they don't want too. My nephew will meet mickey and friends, Peter Pan, gaston but female face characters ehh not so interesting to him.

I get what the op's saying

That's so weird to me. I can't imagine my daughter being uninterested in a character meeting because it's a boy character.

I have boys and girls. My DS enjoyed meeting the princesses and would love to me the Frozen girls. BUT ... if there were an Olaf M&G, and even Sven or Kristoff, he'd be so happy.
Last year when we were there, the girls had their princess gowns on and my DS had a really cool knight/king with cape outfit of. HE was the hit on the show when we walked around. I got so many compliments on him and people actually wanted to take their picture with him. I think that in general, young boys (2-7) are overlooked at Disney.

And I do think Olaf and Sven would have a more universal appeal.

Because the line of boys to meet Kristof and Sven will be much much shorter than the line of girls to meet Anna and Elsa.

I would get behind an electronic Olaf like Disneyland has. He may not be a meetable character. I suppose they could come up with a costume.
