You're taking me back to gradeschool Mary Ellen, YIKES! I remember going to this place now, and although I remember being impressed, I definitely appreciate it more now. Perhaps a trip back someday.

Love the picture of the birds, very beautiful.

This is also Jamestown, but its the part that belongs to the national park system and this admission was $10.

When we got to the other side we needed to come up with a plan, which involved a map. Fortunately I had one. We decided, on the spur of the moment, to drive to a town called Smithfield. From there we could drive towards Virginia Beach and home.

There are some more historic homes you can tour along the way to Smithfield, but I was sort of tapped out with listening.

When we got to Smithfield we unfortunately met a detour that took us past the historic district and we honestly weren't sure how to turn around and get back there. Too bad. We did stop at small little touristy area on the outskirts of town.

We walked around a bit and then headed back to the Eastern Shore.

We made another spontaneous decision on the way home. We decided to take a little side tour to............

IMG_2318.jpg

Yup - Here's a place we had never been before.

We just decided to pick a restaurant off the GPS so we ended up at this townie bar

Where I had a couple of these

We met the nicest girl at the bar. She was a safety engineer at NASA at Wallops Island. We had a long conversation with her about her job, about working at NASA, and about her move back to Colorado. Before we knew it daylight was fading. She recommended another seafood restaurant for dinner and off we went.

We had a couple beers

and then enjoyed some seafood

Denny suggested we actually drive to the beach before we finished the drive home. I was tired and stuffed full of food, plus we still had a 2.5 hour drive in front of us, but I agreed. I'm so glad. The reward was the most spectacular sunset ever.

It was gorgeous. I know you just did the DC thing, but if you ever get a chance to visit Williamsburg and the surrounding area - do it. It's very cool!

We definitely plan to! I'll be coming to you for advice! :goodvibes

Love the campus of W&M, so beautiful.

And as the sun continue to fall we headed back inland from Chincoteague and made our way home.

So that's a wrap friends. I have some more W-burg picture I took a few weeks ago when I returned with my GF's, but I'm going to stop here.

Next Up .....Final Thoughts & Future Plans!

I had a few friends who went to W&M and I visited them a couple times. It's cool to see your photos from there. :)

Hahaha, had to laugh at the little elementary school group! I think in like 4th grade I had a field trip to Jamestown as well. Local! Hahaha. These pictures are bringing back a lot of memories!

WOW... those sunset pictures are just beautiful! AMAZING!!! It sounds like yall had such a nice little weekend trip.

Awesome updates, MEK (well, except the school tour groups).

The sunset pictures are spectacular.

Well, I thought that the bridge pictures at William and Mary were amazing...and then I saw those sunset pics. WOW. Those are gorgeous.

I never realized there was so much to do in the Williamsburg area. We will definitely be heading that way in a couple of of years, once Max is just a little bit older. The Jamestown settlement looks really interesting. Fun fact: it was my dream for years to be reenactor at a living history museum. I ended up majoring in history instead! :rotfl:

Great Williamsburg pics!

My MIL went to William and Mary, it really is a pretty campus.

Beautiful sunset pics.

Great update! Sounds like a great trip (in spite of the 4 hour spiel) and the pictures are lovely :thumbsup2

WOW!! Gorgeous sunset pictures!!

That's all so beautiful! I love the W&M campus - I like to roam around Williamsburg and see the sights and shops when we visit DH's family.
Jamestown Settlement is one of my kids' favorite places to go when we are down there. They could name those three ships! We've had a lot of fun down in that area.
I think Chincoteague is one place where they have wild horses. DH says they used to see them a lot.

That seafood looks yummy too!
Thanks for sharing Williamsburg!

Hey, Mary Ellen. I have been trying to catch up. I still have a few pages to go.

I too never have really experienced the Italy pavilion. I always say I am going to but we never do. Maybe next time.

I love the bakery in Norway. Your dessert looked yummy.

Glad your brother and his family are going. I hope he enjoys it. Family drama can be so much fun. My mother is giving me some right now and I am about to pull my hair out with it.

Really enjoyed this Williamsburg recap MEK! The sunset pictures were glorious.

I think I fell asleep on the coach by 8pm.

I'm sure he didn't mind. ;)

Pocahontas and her forest friends!

ETA: the hides of her forest friends.

I had a little trouble believing that the Powhatan Indians wore glasses

No they didn't. But they were terrible shots.

We kept on walking to the end of the pier

And stopped there, I hope. :)

AMAZING SUNSETS!

Your Williamsburg area photos are just great! my office is coordinating a tirp to Williamsburg in the fall for a football game against Wm & Mary - I will mention the concert at the Kimmel Theater as a good free time event - it sounds wonderful! That crystal violin was just breathtaking.

so you "won" a weekend but stayed in a resort that they were not pitching, and the apparently let you stay in the nicer resort? hmm someones marketing person was snoozing on that decision!;)

I am chuckling at the class trip photos - DH is chaperoning Katie's 3rd grade class to the Franklin Institute tomorrow. now THAT is scary!:scared1::faint: so I will hear stories tomorrow too.

Sounds like your spontaneous ferry & Chincoteague (sorry i know I butchered that spelling) island were great ideas - that dinner looked every bit as yummy as your signature type meal. Love those townie places when you luck out finding one!

29 days!!!! :rotfl2::rotfl2::banana::banana: (but sad for me because that is when my trip ends)

Sounds like you made some good swaps for October.
and I meant to ask you, if your nephews are on the young side would they like a post card from Mickey? I forget how old they are. If you PM (or facebook) me I can send post cards on 6/4 - should arrive by 6/7 or 8. let me know.

W&M's campus is gorgeous!! It looks like you guys had a great time in Williamsburg - too bad about the tour groups though!

Beautiful sunset and moon pictures!!! :goodvibes

Wonderful wonderful pictures of the campus.
Thanks. It was such a pretty campus! I bet students love it there. What a privilege to go to school there.

The picture of your dinner didn't get posted. Sounds like a nice find though.

Thanks. I wonder when i would have noticed. :rolleyes1

Such a beautiful campus...especially the site above.

Isn't it gorgeous? I was really impressed with how large and lovely the campus was. Just perfect.

It was a common practice in the 1700's for families to donate extra to have their name on a specific pew that was reserved for them each meeting day. If they did not show up that day, the pew remained empty. The Episcopal church in Alexandria, VA, Christ Church, still has reserved pews for George Washington and Robert E Lee. Gotta love those Whiskeypalians. Anytime you get 4 together, you're bound to find a fifth! I know...I am one! :thumbsup2

I probably knew that, but forgot. I'm glad they don't know that anymore or I would never have a place to sit in church. :rotfl:

I've got to admit, you've got me stumped with the Whiskeypalian reference. I tried to google it for a definition, but I couldn't even find one. The closest I could find was "catholic light" It's got to be a southern term.

You're taking me back to gradeschool Mary Ellen, YIKES! I remember going to this place now, and although I remember being impressed, I definitely appreciate it more now. Perhaps a trip back someday.

All of Williamsburg is so interesting because it really is the history of the start of our country. It just feels so American to visit there. I definitely recommend a repeat visit there. Its a cool place with so much to do.

Love the picture of the birds, very beautiful.

I took so many pictures of those silly birds! :rotfl: They followed us most of the way across the river. It was cool.

Love the Williamsburg updates! I really need to go back there someday, I love it there! :cool1:

That college campus is beautiful, it must be amazing to go to school there!

Ugh, the timeshare presentation sounds...well, long. I'm glad you were honest with the poor guy, it's gotta be difficult to compete with Disney! :thumbsup2

OMG those beach sunset pictures are AMAZING!!! :yay:

ROFLMAO!! That's too precious. Episcopalians (aka Anglicans) are known for their frequent usage of adult beverages :drinking1 hence, the reference to Whiskey-palians. Ain't no grape juice in our communion chalices! And since many Catholics have been known to imbibe as well, we love to play each other in church-league sports 'cause the post game party is always a riot! The Catholic-light is a reference to the many similarities of our worship services. Episcopalians flunked Latin so we're Catholic-light! Oh yeah...and we're sprinklers, not dunkers...no wading pools in our churches! :rotfl2:

I can't believe how great those sunset pictures were! Those are some of the best I've ever seen. Really. What lens did you use? AF or manual setting? WOW! :thumbsup2

We definitely have to tour Williamsburg sometime. Looks like there's a lot to see and do!

Amazing sunset pictures! Great job!
