Why is Valentine's Day merchandise popping up in stores so soon?

You said "may not", quite different from "not" - nor is it the opposite. You didn't have to post that at all. I didn't glean over anything.

In terms of my wording I'll put it this way it's like "yeah no" which means no and "no yeah" which means yeah. By me saying may not be a troll I'm saying that I don't think the OP is a troll, chalk it up to different ways of talking I guess.

You have my apologies if this truly upset you for me to say the poster isn't a troll. I understand people do react a way when they see the word troll and I use it sparingly in general for all contexts even to say someone isn't one. But I also don't know why mentioning someone isn't a troll would get a rise out of you enough to quote me. But again apologies if it truly upset you. Have a enjoyable rest of your day

Our Target already has swim suits out, but no snowsuits. It's going to be below zero here next week.....

Most stores have Christmas stuff out right after the back to school stuff is gone. IT just keeps getting earlier and earlier.

You know full well she isn't a troll and still you had to question her and pull up posts from a year ago. That's basically mean girl stuff, that's why you got what you call a "rise" out of me. I'm going to end this now, though I'm sure you will have more to add, you always do.

What is the point of commenting back calling me mean girl when you're doing the exact same stuff you have an issue with? And to say more stuff to add when you felt the need to add more yourself? Makes zero sense to me other than you wishing to get the last comment in yourself? PM (or not) if you feel the need to but understand you're doing the exact thing you are calling me out for.

That makes me wonder if Costco has theirs out, they seem to get it even earlier than normal retail stores. Last time we went to Costco though a few weeks back they still had winter coats for sale.

Years back (probably 2017 maybe) I remember we went skiing in February and it was super hard to find any of that type of stuff (like snow pants) at any of the stores in January. We were all able to find things but it was picked clean and we had to go to multiple stores around.

I contribute this to why we all feel time moves so fast. It’s January and we’re seeing February items. In February we’ll start seeing March items (Easter this year), In April we’ll start seeing May items (Mother’s Day) and so on and so on. The only time seasonal stuff that’s out to early annoys me is with Christmas items. The Hobby Lobby by me had Christmas stuff out before Labor Day - I couldn’t believe it. But people were buying stuff so who can blame them - they’re out to make money, and if Christmas merch at the end of August is making money, then they’ll put it out.
I will give Hobby Lobby a pass, since they're a craft store. Crafters have to start making things early to have everything ready for the holiday. Myself, I make fancy ornaments, year-round. That said, my ornament-making station requires roughly 4 square feet of my craft table--no other Christmas decor in sight. And I start making homemade Christmas cards in July.

That said, a lot of what Hobby Lobby has out is straight-up Christmas decor (nutcrackers, trees, etc.), rather than just supplies. Maybe it's to get crafters thinking about what they'll make? Despite my crafting hobby, we don't put up anything for Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving--my kids are adamant that Thanksgiving have its rightful place (and we have a cornucopia out for that, not much else).

i don't know what the deal is but i've gotten at least 2 or 3 ads in my in-box within the last week announcing to not forget that it's 'school supply re-stock time':confused3. target and a couple of other big retailers showing the same kind of ads they usualy have during the summer leading up to school starting. has something changed w/ k-12 schooling where teachers send re-stock lists mid school year?
[snip]

Teachers usually don't, but as a previous poster said, with block scheduling, high schoolers often do need to do a mini-supply run for a few new items at the start of second semester, as college students do as well. I had to buy a couple of extra textbooks for DD16 last week.

If it gets me a sale on notebooks and pencil leads more than once a year, I'm all for it. This way I can buy less in the fall and only restock what's actually needed. (Fall teacher supply lists are notorious for asking for way more stuff than a kid will actually use in a school year.)

The idea with the swimsuits is that you're going to need them for Spring Break travel; they're not stocking them this early for summer use.

You're right about not keeping winter clothing on the shelves when you need it, though. I really think that due to the safety factor of cold weather, outerwear needs to be stocked through at least the beginning of March. (The only places that I notice consistently stock warm outerwear until late in the season are large home-improvement stores. Lots of people end up needing to buy outdoor workwear in a hurry if they get a new job.)

Very interesting and I never thought about that - you are absolutely correct ::yes::

Swimsuits are most likely for people going on vacation in a warm location. I get catalogs in January advertising swimsuits.

I ran out on December 23rd to grab some last minute stocking stuffers and Christmas candy. It was all gone and replaced with Valentine’s Day and EASTER candy! I WAS tempted to just buy Cadbury eggs for the stockings, but I was so annoyed with Walmart for getting rid of the Christmas stuff before Christmas, I walked out and went to CVS. Ended up spending a pretty penny there. Sorry Walmart, your loss. I guess I’ll be going to CVS for Easter stuff too since I refuse to buy Easter candy in January. 😒

I’ve learned over the past five years or so that it’s sometimes necessary to buy certain holiday items early, like Christmas in early October. When I’d go back after Thanksgiving those things were all sold out, at every local location.

That’s why I bought a few Valentines items earlier this week.

My hero!!!

As long as you promise not to mess up my rental condos in the process.
Well ok. I guess I'll have to have a quiet time with Miss Walla Walla. Wait a minute. How did you know I slipped by your do not rent mandate by disguising myself as a garlic?

The days of stores stocking so much they have nearly everything available December 26 are over.

This is particularly true at places like the Dollar Store. Which has some cute decorations, I might add. The stock gets picked over quickly, and what's left is broken or damaged. I shop there mostly for my DD20--she lives in campus housing, I'm not spending money on expensive decorations.

I was just looking at the Disney shopping thread and I am surprised at the amount of Easter items already for sale. Of course, Easter is very early this year, so that could also be playing into when the merchandise goes up for sale.

Good point!

Our Kroger already has Easter candy out. My dd loves Cadbury Eggs and they (along with my favorite Reeces' PB Eggs) were proudly displayed with Buy 2 Get 1 Free.

As for Valentine's Day, that was already out a few days before Christmas here.

I just figure after Easter, Fourth of July and Back to School will be in full swing in the seasonal aisle. ;)
