Why is it so hard to be courteous?

Nobody here, but I'm talking about drivers!! Like when I merge onto a freeway, I've got the right-of-way, but the big semi coming down the way in the right lane speeds up so I can't get in.

Or, when I'm heading down the on ramp and the others merging from the other way have a yeild, yet the DON'T.(This happened to me again the other day, and a car came up behind me... I was just sitting there waiting for someone to let me in, and the car behind me starts honking like mad at ME! Where the heck am I supposed to GO??!)

Or the person in front of me who stops in the right lane to turn right up ahead, say at a red light, yet blocks the driveway, by stopping in front of it, so the person waiting to get out onto the street just plain can't. Even though there is a sign there in big black letters saying DON'T BLOCK DRIVEWAY.

Or, the person is trying to change lanes, to say, get off the off ramp, yet nobody will let him over, even though the blinker is on, blinking away.

I just don't get why everyone is so, not nice. I guess it's just the times... I see this more and more.

What's funny is how appreciative someone is when you DO do one of the above. I almost always get a wave or something.

I'm not trying to be Miss Perfect, but whenever I drive I see this and for some reason, I let it get to me.

SORRY! RANT OVER! LOL!

I HATE it when people ignore Yield signs!

I also hate it when someone cuts me off. They practically kill themselves to do so, cutting across 3 lanes of traffic at top speed....yet as soon as they get in front of me, they drive at a snail's pace.

ITA - it's pretty sad that common courtesy has gone out the window. People are always in a hurry and always have to be first. We have a road here that goes from 2 lanes into 1. I drive it every morning to work and every morning i hang back and watch the idiots battle it out over who will be first. Nobody wants to give an inch. I am just waiting for a major accident to happen.

This happened to me yesterday and was totally bizarre:

I was waiting to turn left across 2 lanes into a gas station. It was rush hour and traffic was backed up at a light, so the entrance to the gas station was blocked. No problem, I figured I'd wait and when traffic started to move, someone would let me in. Well, as traffic started to move ahead, the woman parked directly to my left backed up as much as she could to try to let me through. I thought that was very nice of her, except I still couldn't get through because traffic in the other lane was still moving. Besides, there still was not enough room for me to get through without hitting her car. She started go get VERY irate, gesturing for me to go and rudely mouthing off (I couldn't hear what she was saying but it was obvious she was extremely pissed) What was I supposed to do??!! Hit her car??! I tried to squeeze through, but it was obvious I didn't have enough room so I just smiled, shrugged and motioned for her to move on. She kept shaking her head and mouthing what was most likely obscenities. I have no idea what she expected me to do about the situation.

Everybody's in SUCH a hurry to get there two mintues faster than the next guy.

It makes me insane, completely insane. I see it every single day in this city where traffic is a nightmare, mainly because of all these Type A personalities who just HAVE to be one step ahead.

Another place I see it is standing in line. I was in the grocery store the other day, where the cashier was obviously new. She was going along as fast as she could, but you know how it is when you are new, you sort of fumble a lot. Its not really that big of a deal to cut her some slack, right? The guy in front of me is one second away from a coronary, mumbling under his breath and the veins throbbing in his forehead. Geesh. I cannot imagine getting so worked up over such a thing. By the time he got to the front of the line he looked like he had run a marathon he was so worked up.

KimR, that is very odd. So, she was going to be nice, but decided to get upset in stead... LOL! Look around! Duh! Oh well.

Yes, it does seem EVERYONE is always in MORE of a rush, or their time is MORE important or whatever. I'm so sick of it!

I really think people w/ good manners are a dying breed.....
Last week I was walking through a crowded, outdoor cafe', I tripped and fell on the concrete sidewalk. There I was, 8 months pregnant on my hands and knees on the concrete and not one person offered assistance. It would never occur to me NOT to help someone, pregnant or not!
It made me very sad.

Terrible! It would have probably been a bit different here in Texas as far as that situation went, but not on the roads.

I had to call the police on some moron in a big dodge truck for running me off the road. There have been people firing shots at out of road rage on our highways lately and I understand why!

When we drive on the interstate, my DH is driving and I always watch the ramps "Vehicle coming out" I say, he turns on his blinker and goes to the left lane, if the cars will let him, and this is getting harder to do, nobody acts as if they see you! We have had to come to a complete stop at the ramp before because traffic won't let us in, and had people behind us honking, too. I don't want anyone else to be coming off the ramp and have to stop like we have, it's very dangerous, so we always try to move over for incoming traffic.

Treat others the way you want to be treated. A big percent of our population seems to have blinders on when it comes to dealing with real people ( not helping a pregnant lady on the floor is just callous) my child is being taught to always help others, but how do you get through to the rudeniks to wake up and be a human?

THAT is sick! Unbelieveable... What is with people these days!

I too am trying very hard to teach my son good manners and respect. It's not that hard to teach someone who dosen't know better...then they learn the right way! Too bad more don't do this!

I know! I hear ya! People can be so rude on the road. I was trying to change lanes the other day after following a can which was going waaaay below the speed limit. I switched lanes and carried on for a ways, I then turned my blinkers on to switch back to the right past the van so that I could turn off into my development, and the driver has the nerve to speed waaaay up so that I can't switch lanes and almost miss the turnoff. The nerve!

Oh! Don't get me started!
A school bus is 35 feet long and yellow with flashing red and
yellow lights, a big "STOP" sign blinking on it and many people
drive right by. Hello! Children crossing the street!!!!!!

...Like when I merge onto a freeway, I've got the right-of-way...

Please note that if you are the one entering the freeway, you have to yeild .

I'd like to know what happened to the thank you wave when someone lets you pull out in front of them.

On my way home from work, I stopped at Home Depot and B&N. I let 4 people pull in front of me as I made my way from one end of the plaza to another. Not one person waved thank you.
Now that I think about, the people I held the door for at B&N didn't say thank you either.

No wonder why so few people let people cut in front of them in traffic anymore.

Because

"There are stupid people all around us. They look like you and me. They go about their daily lives not realizing they are stupid!"

I hate it whe you are trying to get over , people seeing you trying to change lanes and speed up. I saw this one lady laughing as she speed up so I couldn't get over

I hate it when people speed up when I change lanes. It's so annoying. I wonder if this happens to me a lot because I drive a Beetle and other drivers think I won't mind. It might be my imagination.

I also hate it when people pull in front of me too fast, causing me to brake, but there's no traffic behind me at all and there was no hurry to get on the road. What, you couldn't wait the two seconds for me to pass by? And why are you driving under the speed limit?

Exactly what I was going to post.

One day I was coming out of a store, bag on one arm, carrying my 2 year old in the other, I held the door open for a woman and do you thinkg I got a thank you. I said "your welcome" real loud, hope she felt silly.

The same thing happened to me a couple days ago! I couldn't believe the nerve of the man! He sped up SUPER fast (he was going about 30 or so and speed up to over 50 mph!) and wouldn't let me over. Then him and his friend started laughing. I can't believe how rude some people can be.
