why is eurostar so expensive now?

about a month ago i was looking for middle of july for three nights just off site and including eurostar - it was about £190 each.

Now it is easily double that?

any idea why the big jump in price?

Eurostar sell tickets on a first come first serve basis....they have a limited amount of cheap tickets, and when they are sold it gets more expensive, and so on the closer you get to the time of travel.

The strange thing is our tickets for Easter Monday were £209 from the time they went on sale (that's one adult and one child) and they stayed that price for ages. There are still some seats available and they are only about £20 more expensive even now.

I paid £62 for my March ticket on the 5th Jan, my Brother just paid £107 for the same ticket a month later

I booked my September eurostar tickets a week after they came out, last year for the same date they was £65 (booking them the exact same time, maybe a few days earlier) and this time its £85. They was even £85 on the day they went on sale as Eurostar rung me to tell me they was on sale.

So i dont think its a first come first serve basis anymore as i find it highly unlikely that all the £65 tickets sold out on the first day of release.

Unfortunately its like everything, the cost is rising. Eurostar tickets are like airline tickets, usually start cheap then get dearer.

I think the general rule is the earlier you book, the better, but I know when I booked Eurostar a few weeks ago, I left it a few days before I booked and I saw the price go from £75 return to around £150 then back down to £75 again.

I also think the price of tickets generally rocketed after Eurostar moved from Waterloo to St Pancras.
