Why I Love to go to Disney when it is HOT!

I am probably one of the few that likes to go to DisneyWorld when it is HOT, during the middle of summer! Here is what I like about DisneyWorld vacations, in the middle of summer (June / July) ---

1) Taking a summer vacation at Disneyworld forces me to plan and train my body for the vigorous workout ---- In anticipation of the trip, I know that I will not enjoy myself unless I have a vigorous training plan several months before my departure. As a result, I have a combination walk / workout plan, where I put in 8 miles / day and I mix in some sprints, stretching, pushups and situps to help ensure my entire body recovers from the winter blues. I know that unless I have my weight down do an acceptable level (especially when it is 90+ degrees outside), I will not enjoy myself. A summer trip to Disney helps prevent me from being overweight.

2) When we eventually, arrive, I find that several hours out in the hot sun, makes me feel better and more energized. I feel much better at Disney than sitting in an office, working all day --- I think our bodies were designed to be out in the sun for most of the day. Nothing feels better than arriving in your room and feeling the satisfying effect of a good workout.

3) Taking a DisneyWorld vacation in the summer forces me to put my 2 DS's (age 12 and 6) on a vigorous workout plan as well ---- I do hear "Daddy, I'm thirsty" or "Daddy, I am tired", quite a lot. However, this forces us to keep our kids in good shape and teach them that life is not a piece of cake. This is our version of a summer boot/workout camp for our kids combined with some fun.

4) Going in the middle of summer, in the hot heat, limits the amount of pounds that you will gain on the Disney Dining Plan. This last summer trip, I ate a desert - sometimes, 2 deserts (if you count a milkshake) for each meal and I did not gain a pound. I think this is due to the fact, that your body burns more calories and exerts more energy when it is 92-95 degrees versus 80 degrees.

I would encourage DVC members to consider going to DW in the summer. (the crowds are not that bad, except around Memorial day weekend and July 4th Holiday). In anticipation of your trip, you will have the excitement of a challenge --- this gives you the opportunity to put yourself in tip/top shape. To accomplish this, change both your diet and exercise plan, several months before departure. I can attest to the fact that it can be done! Go Vols!

I agree.

We enjoy the Summer as well. However, we've not found a season we didn't like.

One of our annual trips has usually been in July. Our workout/run serves to invigorate us. We love to start our day at WDW in this manner

Well, I am not in shape for any rigorous workouts, lol, but I also love WDW in the summer months. Actually, I love it any time of the year, lol.

We tend to sleep in, do the pool during day hours then head out by dinner time for park touring mostly in the evening hours. The sun goes down, it becomes less stifling then, and the late afternoon rain showers are refreshing.

No WDW for me June through Sept. I don't enjoy the heat. That's why I live in a northern state and visit Florida during winter when I want a break from the cold.

You can keep the summer months. That means fewer people for me to deal with in early December and then again in March or April.

I think on eof the biggest advantages is usually there is less sickness going around in the summer. If you take 4-6 people the chances that some one has a cold or flu during the Winter is high.

I also love the:
- swimming.
- extra Light
- longer park hours

We love the summer at WDW too. You know what the weather will be and it's so easy to pack. The parks are open later and you can plan pool time every day. We've been going in August and by then we're already "tan" so don't have to worry about sunburn. See you there!!

We love going in July! We usually always go the week of the 4th of July (except this year :sad1: ) It's crowded, but if you have a plan, your waiting time is minimal.

well....I do agree it is great to be in shape for Disney in the summer but...I like it because I can wake up late, go to the pool all day, and hit the parks for an hour or two each day with a nice dinner booked. I use our summer vacation as our lazy vacation where all we do is swim and swim and swim. Oh yea- then we swim some more....

You actually will burn more when it's cold body uses calories just to keep warm. You may lose more weight but most of that is water. Still you've got the right idea of staying in shape mo matter what the reason. I love all the seasons in WDW, when it's cold you can run around in jeans and have a blast, when it's hot you can enjoy all the water fun, and of course the tank tops noted in a previous post. All the parks seem to provide plenty of areas to cool off, I just make sure I bring my own water bottle and fill it at the fountains. A family of 4 could easily put down $100.00 worth of bottled water staying properly hydrated. Did any one mention tank tops?

I agree. We usually go in August, too.

AUGUST for us too!!! REASON: We are Floridians that are "STUCK" in Ohio!!! I HATE the COLD ....I LOVE the HEAT!!! Bring on the HEAT!!

I've got another reason why it's great to go in the summer: Fewer Bathroom Breaks! :thumbsup2 No matter how much I drink, I almost never have to stop and "go." I think it's because of all the sweating you do.

I love going to WDW in the summer also, and I hate the heat! But a summer trip to WDW forces me to slow down, spend lots of time at the pool. I find a summer trip to be more about the down time. Also, WDW in the summer is still less hot than where we live.

We love WDW in summer! We go every July or August. We always hear, "Isn't it HOT there in the summer?" our response, it is hot HERE too, but it is WDW! hahahaha! LOVE IT!

We try to do 2 trips during the summer (June and August). You also have a lot more daylight during the summer months.

I love the longer park hours and that it is warm enough to go swimming.. Count us in as smmer people too
