Since Japan is under such dire circumstances, I thought it would be nice to post a thread of what I love about Japan and whatever else anyone wants to add :)

People are very generous and friendly, even when there's a language barrier
They are typically very clean and healthy, Japanese people on average live longer than anyone else in the world

Then there's:

Sushi
Good Cars
Bullet Trains
Transformers
Sake
Traditional culture mixed with high technology
Geishas
Wild fashions (Harajuku)
Mt. Fuji
Cherry Blossoms
Final Fantasy
Super Mario
Sasuke (Ninja Warrior)

Isn't Godzilla from Japan? I'd have to add him and all the other monsters to the list (Gamera was my fav :lovestruc)

"monster week" when my brothers and I were growing up was so much fun!!

Your list is my list! I lived there for 6 months back in 1992 and ever since then, there has been a very special place in my heart for Japan and it's people. DH has taken his high school jazz band there twice since then, this last time was with my ds 15 in November. We are all so sad for the people of Japan.

I could eat sushi every day of my life.

I love the places all around that the Buddhists tie wishes and sayings to trees and walls on little strips of paper. I love the restaurant windows where the food is represented in plastic. I love the groups of children moving together like schools of fish in the ocean. I love the Shinkansen, sushi, summo...the Budhas everywhere. I love the gardens with their sounds, raked gravel for meditation, lucky fish, Bonzai. Inuyama was beautiful, Kyoto is gorgeous. I hope the trouble in Japan doesn't escalate anymore. I was so grateful when I heard of the village that evacuated and the people feared lost were found.

I love the art that they put into everyday things, the most impressive meal I have ever had was on the bullet train, going from Narita to Hiroshima. I ordered beef stew..it was delicious, but the impressive part was that the vegetables were carved into the shapes of animals...rabbit carrots ...bear potatoes...turnip fish...parsnip birds...on the train!!! Love love love Japan.

:goodvibes

can't think of much to add, but at one time I traded Disney pins with Japanese pin traders. They were always so nice and so fair, I enjoyed having contact with them - even that little bit! :)

I like their art and aesthetics.

Regard for others' needs and desires
Respect for elders
Cleanliness
Mt. Fuji
KAWAIIIIII :cutie:
Meiji chocolate
Unbelievably high-tech toilets
Curry
Pampered pet dogs everywhere!

And so much more. Japan is magic! I hope that once things really start looking up, anyone who has considered going there will GO.

They hold teachers in such high regard and show them such respect!

The history and culture
anime
manga
food

DH and I met b/c of our mutual love of anime so we've been really sad about everything that's happened.

They have respect for the elderly people
Sushi
Wasabe
Maru the cat who loves to get inside boxes lives there (search Mugumogu in Youtube, funniest cat EVER)
Origami
Lovely kimonos
Tokyo Disneyland
Lots of japanese people LOVE Disney :D
Zen gardens
Japanese tourists are so respectful of the cultures they visit when they're travelling
And too many other reasons! you covered most of them

Japan has all of my respect and admiration :thumbsup2

I've always wanted to go to Japan. My favorite book, ever, is a love story set in Japan, Shogun. My favorite quote from the book:

"Karma is the beginning of knowledge. Next is patience. Patience is very important. The strong are the patient ones, Anjin-san. Patience means holding back your inclination to the seven emotions: hate, adoration, joy, anxiety, anger, grief, fear. If you don't give way to the seven, you're patient, then you'll soon understand all manner of things and be in harmony with Eternity."
