Why have they not added gift cards for mobile ordering?

I cannot come up with a logical reason why disney has not allowed gift cards as a payment method for mobile ordering. We LOVE to use mobile ordering, but we also like to get our GCs in advance through target so we can take advantage of the 5% discount. It seems kind of silly they have not added this feature by now.

After reading a couple stories about gift card accounts getting hacked I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Also I think the strategy behind it is that is away to get you buy more stuff; forcing you to use your gift card for merch if you want the convenience of mobile ordering. CC's also have more protection for fraud I would assume too. Disney is to smart to not have a reason why, we just don't fully understand that reasoning.

I would also like it if you could use a gift card when using mobile ordering, but my guess is it has something to do with how the systems are set-up. While I do tend to think of gift cards like credit cards, I know they're different. So perhaps there are some technological or legal impediments to allowing the use of gift cards for mobile ordering.

I contacted Disney about this topic about 6 months ago. I was told they currently have no plans to add gift cards to mobile ordering:(.

Well that's disappointing. It definitely makes my planning and budgeting more difficult as I like to pre-pay for everything with GC. BUT, some of those lines around lunch time are just ridiculous. And that is when i LOVE mobile ordering.

Because it's another easy way for charge more dollars to the Mouse! :)

Perhaps because there's a charging mechanism behind the orders placed and then fulfilled and charged that they can't do with gift cards.

Wonder if it has to do with gift card amounts and what happens if your order is more than the gift card? Just guessing of course. When I was a cashier at a big box retailer, you couldn't use those prepaid Visa gift cards if your total was more than the balance on the card, unless we typed in the exact balance amount on the card. But it worked fine with an in store gift card. Theoretically for Disney mobile order, you could have a gift card set up as your first form of payment and a credit card secondary.

I’ve given them this feedback as well. As a Canadian, paying with gift cards is better for currency exchange fees than credit cards so I wish they would add similar functionality to the Starbucks app of adding funds from gift cards. As it is, it just doesn’t make sense for me to do mobile orders.
