Why exactly does Forbidden Journey break down?

I love this ride and on my last 2 trips, we've gone on it over 15 times. I noticed that this ride seems to break down quite a bit. Usually its only for a couple of minutes (we got stuck on the ride right in front of the steamy dragon.. good for a nice facial), once for more than an hour. So what is it exactly that causes the ride to stop? Is it a mechanical issue, or is it more like someone dropped something? :wizard:

No idea why the breakdowns, but hubby and I were on it this past weekend when it stopped and I wondered about people who were actually in the action. It was for only about a minute and we were just about to get off. The other people on our "bench" were faster than us to get their harness up, but we were stuck there. The girl helping everyone get off tried to use her key to get us out, but couldn't and said we would have to wait. I was imagining being in front of the spiders or dementors when it broke. Didn't even think about the dragon! :hyper:

It was explained to us by a TM that a lot of the short 1 minute or so stops are to load a handicap guest or for things such as a guest not getting their harness down correctly in time before they pass the sensor. He also told us that there are quite a few stops due to various protein spills through out the day. As for longer stops, well it is a new ride and new tech that is just over a year old.

Considering how many guests that ride funnels through each day, I'd say their breakdown to success ratio is exceptional. I've been to the park 4 times now and have rode FJ close to 80 times and only had one time the ride stopped for a brief moment. Not too shabby.

I actually wondered if the short stops were to let handicap guests on as it can be hard enough to walk on that moving walkway even without a disability!

No kidding! Hubby and I felt like drunks the first time we got on and off! The only "beer" we had been sipping was Butterbeer! :lmao:

I actually had time to take out my camera a couple weeks ago and snap a few "very dimly light" pictures during one of those break downs.

Often it is because someone dropped something: their lunch.

Last weekend there were several times certain aisles in the FJ gift shop were closed, for the same reason. ;)

ETA: The ride also closed once for a very long time (about 30-45 minutes) and the TM said there was something wrong with the dragon. It didn't blow smoke for the rest of the weekend after that, but they did keep the ride running.

I thought maybe Voldemort cursed the ride because he was upset he was not featured in it . . . :)

what is this ride similar to? Is it like SOARIN at Epcot? or like the Simpsons Ride??

Just wondering b/c the Simpsons ride I'm find with but SOARIN makes me a bit nauseaus.

Thanks.

Love the ride!! My only disappointment is, where is voldemort??? Such a key figure in everything that harry potter is, is absent! Oh well, that just means they have to make a new ride eventually :D

For those wondering what is done for disabled guests- there is a separate stationary loading platform for them.

Definitely a good idea! :wizard:
