My niece is selling Girl Scout cookies. We told her we wanted 4 boxes of Caramel deLites. She sounded puzzled, so I talked to her mom (my sister), and told her - "You know, Caramel deLites!! They have a hole in the middle and have chocolate and coconut on them." Sis says - "Those are SAMOAS!!'

So, I looked on the Girl Scout cookie website, and here's what I found:

Caramel deLites = Samoas
Do-Si-Dos = Peanut Butter Sandwich
Tagalongs = Peanut Butter Patties
Trefoils = Shortbread

Why can't a Shortbread just be a Shortbread??? :confused3

Because they are made by different bakeries depending on your geographic region. :)

Our council switched bakeries this year. So for the past 4 years we have sold Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Peanut Butter Patties and Shortbreads. This year we are selling Samoas, Do-si-Dos, Tagalongs and Trefoils.

Tagalongs?! What a silly name. Those are my favorite.. and they'll always be peanut butter patties to me. :snooty:

I had never heard of Caramel deLites. About a hundred years ago (ok, closer to 25) when I sold Girl Scout cookies, they were called Samoas. Actually, we sold samoas, do-si-dos, tagalongs and trefoils. It definitely must be a regional thing.

We have caramel delites now but I still call them Samoas. I just ordered two boxes this morning - they are one of my favorite cookies in the world! :love::laughing:

I would not have known what you were talking about either. They have always been somoas and tagalongs around here (and I use to sell them 20 years ago). I had no idea they had other names elsewhere.

Like others have said, it is the bakeries. As far as I know, there are just two bakeries, ABC and Little Brownie.

It depends upon which bakery makes "your" cookies. My council uses Little Brownie Bakers, while other councils use ABC Bakers.

Also, different councils choose which cookies they'll offer. ALL of them, of course, choose to sell the classics: Thin Mints, Samoas, Do-Si-Dos, Tags, and Trefoils. But some councils have a really great lemon cookie with an "undercoating"; it looks like a wagon wheel. Other councils choose a pinwheel-looking cookie with strawberry filling. Our council has a new berry-flavored cookie that, honestly, is very dry.

When I was a scout in SE Massachusetts, we sold Samoas, Do-si-dos, Tagalongs and Trefoils. My daughters..not a scout this year but has been..sold the same. I didn't even know that there were alternative names. Do they taste exactly the same, I wonder??

Not to change the subject...but I have a box of thin mints in the freezer. Anyone think I'll die if I eat them???

We sold the Carmel delites I never heard of the other names at all..we still have the same names... thin mints are my fav. and i'll always only buy them :lovestruc

As otheres have said, it is a matter of which of two bakeries your counsel buys from. Personally I think the cookeid made by Little Brownie Bakers are a far better product. We used to live on the boarder between councils and I had several boxes from each bakery two years running and one was just so much better than the other. After that I always donated a dollar to the ABC bakery girls and bought my cookies from the Little Brownies ones:rolleyes1 Luckily both councils DD was a GS in sold Little Brownie (Samoas, Tagalongs, etc.).

I wish the council here would switch back to the bakery that makes the Tagalongs. A few years ago, they switched and now sell Peanut Butter Patties, which just aren't as tasty as Tagalongs IMO.

Did they sell these cookies this year? I can't find them on either bakers website and have had them in the past, so I would love to get some if I can.

I was a leader and cookie mom many years ago, my DGD is now a Daisy. We sold tag-alongs, samoas, do-i-dohs and trefoils. I got very confused this year when I saw the caramel name. I will stick to thin mints, I am leaving them in the car because it is so cold they are frozen and I don't want to go out in the cold. Right now I am munching on do-si-dohs.

Is that the "Thank U Berry Munch"? DH ordered several boxes of these, but he likes to dunk his cookies in milk, so I think they will be fine.

Has anyone tried the Dulce de Leche?

I agree with the PP who said Little Brownie Bakers in so much better. ABC Bakeries were blah.

I sold Caramel Delites (15-20 years ago), but now the girls here sell Samoas. I don't like GS cookies as much as I did when I was a kid, so it doesn't make a difference for me. :laughing:

This is decided by the bakery and not council. Little Brownie has the Lemon Chalets (lemon oreo), Dulce de Leche and Thank you berry munc.
ABC Bakery has Lemonades (short bread with lemon bottom), Thanks a Lot (short bread with chocolate bottom) and Daisy Go Rounds (100 cal. snack bags of a cinnamon type cookie).

I have spent way too much time selling cookies if I know this crap!! :rotfl:
