Why don't they tell the truth?

I have a contractor doing some work at my house and he knows we own at DVC. He and his wife and 2yr old son (first visit) love Disney and just went down there last week. I advised him to go on the tour which they did.

The were shown AKV and BLT. She loved AKV style and BLT location. But when he asked the guide about the contracts and what happens at the end, all he was told was that the contract ends. He asked again and got the same answer.

When he returned he asked me what that meant and I told him the contract reverts back to Disney. He looked at me and said "Why didn't they just say that?"

They like BWV of all the resorts and I told him about the Timeshare Store. But then he said but there is only 30 years or so left (he is about 30) and I laughed. "A lot happens in 30 years" I said.

Because they are in the business of selling and sometimes no answer sells better than the truth.

They also have a "if not asked, don't tell" policy.

Maybe it's just me, but I really don't see the difference..

If they don't offer an extension, the contract really does just end. The resort would no longer be a DVC resort and would be turned over to the Parks & Resorts group.

If they did offer an extension and it wasn't taken, then the contract reverts back to DVC to resell those points.

There was nothing untruthful or even misleading in the answer they received.

The contract with the owner ends. Period. End of your ownership.

As far as what happens to the resort and buildings, it doesn't matter...their ownership interest is over. Disney could update and resell the resort as DVC, demolish it, revert it to cash...whatever...it is of no consequence to owners whose contracts have ended.

We also had that problem at cyberspace mountain. We went to use our fastpasses and they said the ride was broken down. We asked why and they wouldnt tell. This is the one thing i hate about disney. They try to keep everything that happens that is bad a secret.

Disney just likes to put a positive spin on any potentially negative message. We were very amused one time when we went to Guest Services to see if we had any days remaining on a pass. Instead of telling us the ticket had expired, they told us it was "fully enjoyed." We still get a good laugh out of that one!
