Why Doesn't Disney Help Us Canadian Visitors Out?

Hi Gang

Don't get me wrong with this post. I'm not venting at all, just wishing. :)

I guess it all boils down to Disney making money but I wish they'd give us Canadians more of a break to come down and enjoy the Disney magic as compared to the native American visitors.

First off usually our dollar kills us with the exchange. Once in a while Disney will offer at par discounts but these are very few and far between. More at par deals or better than at par deals please for us. It's a long way to travel for us Canadians!!

I've never heard of a Canadian Disney VISA or any other card that helps us gain points or whatever to travel there. What's up with that??

The Magical Express may or may not work with Canadian based flights. Huh??

I haven't heard of any Canadians getting email or postcard discount codes. I think that these are just sent out to US addresses. :sad2:

Just some thoughts.

I did! I did!

I got both a postcard, mind you my name was spelt wrong and it did go to my mother's old house that she sold 1 1/2 ago!LOL I did get a an email from DVC that I did not think I would get 'cause American Cousins got about 1 1/2 months ago!LOL

As for the Disney Visa........Don't get me started again!LOL Basically not the same CC company here and the states.

Since the CDN $ is doing much better than previous years, Disney does not have to give us incentives! But when they did, they were good!

That's why we are all here, to help each other in planning and getting the best for our bucks!

You can use the transportation, but will have to lug your own luggage from the bus from what I hear but well worth it! Your saving a lot of money!

It's a brighter picture today than say just a couple of years'!

::yes:: And I never could use those discounts. I am really limited to when I can go to Disney. Just yesterday, the radio was saying how our dollar fell and I giggled. I remember working out a times difference to my cost on my trips. Now that hurt!

My beef? I hate how Disney starts their Value season on August 28. The other hotels start around the 10th of August. :confused3 Which is how we got to go. Courtyard $20 rooms. (Hey I miss THEM, too! )

And...did you notice that if you live in Canada you can't download the online vacation planning stuff from the disney site?

It's based in the US. I mean, sorry you feel that your dollar isn't worth as much but I don't see how you believe that there should be permanent price reductions for those living in Canada. IMHO, I think Disney has plenty of promotions going on all the time for everyone, as well as just for Canadians that is more than generous. If you feel that Disney is too costly, then stay off property and go to the parks just for the day. Your dollar is much better today than it has been in the past!

The Disney Visa is issued, as Scratch said, by a US bank. Therefore, you need a US social security number and credit history to get a card. It's not really that good of a deal anyway. Plus, I personally hate Bank One. The reverse is true, though, too: People in the US that frequently travel to Canada can't get an Aerogold card from CIBC because they dont have a SIN. Well, I do, but I'm an exception. :teeth: There probably isn't nearly enough demand in Canada for a bank to justify sponsoring such a card.

Then again, maybe Disney just doesn't like Canadians. Jeez. Isn't Canada's Wonderland enough? :confused3 :rotfl2:

We still go & go back :earboy2:

Now I'm still working it out at this end, but it's looking like our trip Dec 05 will cost about $300 Cdn less for our Family for the 7-day Plus Tix than it did Dec 02 when we did use the Cdn @ Par deal (then buy 1, get 1 1/2 price, i.e. 25% off all). No Park Hopping this time, but we will get 5 plus features instead of 4 and DisneyQuest is now included as a Plus. We also have to buy 1 more Adult pass for a child who was a WDW "Child" still back then. Hope our $ continues like this! So given it's 3 years later, more Plus features, 1 child more expensive now I'm pleased. When we started planning this again the $ wasn't as good & we were planning on only getting for 4 or 5 day tix then, but we were still planning to go back! Woo hoo!

Hi:

I really wish that they could have kept the disney club card then everyone who purchases it can use the card, we received great room rates, and even discounts on things at downtown disney. I don't understand why they went with the disney visa instead.

Deb.

Lets revolt!!
I'm sending Florida all the snow from my backyard, and bringing mouse traps with me for my next trip to WDW!!!
That'll show 'em ;)

"The Disney Visa is issued, as Scratch said, by a US bank. Therefore, you need a US social security number"

That won't help either!LOL I have one but because I don't have a permanent address in the US, they won't give it to me! I got over it! Really, I have!LOL

I don't think Disney is a bad deal now considering the rally in the Canadian dollar and the taxes are less down there. I also think the reduction in the tickets and the dining option is a great deal. For the longest time it wasn't middle class Canadians going to Disney...unless they were fanatics like us! But now I notice (I'm a travel Agent) that Disney is within reach of most families. I also did the days at $1.60 exchange rate, but my kids will never be 3, 7 and 10 like they were then....so it was worth it IMO.

Canadians can't take advantage of the Disney Visa but TD Canada trust offers a Gold Travel Card that I've used to redeem for Disney travel and for lots of other travel too!

Get up on the wrong side of the bed and decided to troll the Cdn boards, Stuart? sheeeeeesh.

I think we are better off now than we used to be with the dollar being so much better. I got great deals with Busch Gardens and Usf/IOA this year so it was only really Disney that cost for us alot. I think our Airmile program is great too. You can get Disney tix for free using your Airmiles and flights as well. We took advantage of that this year.

Its flights that are killing us here in MB. We used to fly direct for 300-400 pp. I can even remember Signature having a kids fly free deal that we took advantage of. Now, its very expensive (750.00 pp) and with connections. They have the odd sale but you have to be extremely flexible. Canjet just started operating here so hopefully they will open things back up for us and give us more options.

On our first visit, in 1986, we had a special Canadian pass that was good for one month and cost $45! Hard to believe.

A couple years ago, when our dollar was at its lowest, we got a $289 CAN rate at the Beach Club, and a recall a couple other Canuck deals, so they are aware of us up here.

Yes, flights have really increased over the years, partly due to myriad taxes.

I think the question is - why SHOULD Disney give us a break? Not that I wouldn't like one, but there are many countries with currencies that aren't as strong against the US dollar as even ours is, and they don't get a break.

Um, I am Canadian. I can make all the Canadian jokes I want and I don't see a problem with me posting here one little bit. This is not trolling, this is stating facts. That last line, though, was a joke. Relax.

Good point Amberle. Also look at it this way. The Euro is stronger than the US dollar. Does that mean our friends from Europe should have to pay more by the same rationale?

And don't worry Sandy. When the open skys deal happens, you'll be able to fly on our much cheaper US carriers. http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2005/02/24/941224-cp.html

OK, sorry Stuart, had no idea you were Cdn. I searched and could not see any "ehs" or "aboots" in your thread ;)

Thanks for the link. Hopefully they won't cherry pick as feared but ...........
I'd love to know why they stopped flying out of Winnipeg, the flights we were on were always packed so the demand was there. <insert stomping foot emoticon>

Seriously though, as already stated, the Disney part of our trip is really quite reasonable. It's the flight that is insane. I think we should petition Air Canada and the crew, not Disney.
